I worked at Pennsylvania College of Technology full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Incredible benefits with plenty of vacation days (which you'll need)

    Cons

Micro managed by too many managers. You'll spend your whole day doing nothing but filling out daily reports and explaining yourself to 3 managers, and assistant director and the director. For being a technology college can't understand why people would want to use anything but Windows and makes fun of linux and mac users behind their backs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    take some management courses

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Pennsylvania College of Technology

    Pros

The benefits are excellent and the president, Davie Gilmour, has done a terrific job of handling things with the tightening of the higher education budgets in PA and with communicating with employees to eliminate fear and concern. It is not a research school so it is great for those people more interested in teaching than research.

    Cons

There is still a stigma of the former community college environment surrounding the school which can make it difficult to get recognition outside of the college as a professor in a Bachelor's degree program. It is not a research school, so it could be difficult moving to another 4-yr institution in certain fields.

I have been working at Pennsylvania College of Technology

    Pros

quiet atmosphere, not real challenging, union environment. Small town with easy access to things. One isn't required to produce research, can concentrate on teaching.

    Cons

open enrollment, not real challenging, heavy teaching load, union environment, nepotism. Almost no diversity in the faculty, staff or student body. Small town attitudes. Not much culture beyond outdoors activities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the management is aware of the problems facing Penn College and is trying to deal with them. Not much to add.
