Pros
New and immaculate facilities, compensation competitive with marketplace, a great comraderie among employees.
Cons
Corporate, shareholder driven mentality resulting in layoffs while expecting others to pick up the slack. A spirit of maximizing assets. I'm repulsed by the term "human capital" as if I'm being amortized like a piece of equipment and discarded at the end of it's useful life. Lack of consistency in company guidelines as they preach integrity yet actions by management sometimes are anything but. If you can BS and produce $$$$ as a manager, no one will question how you do it let alone face any type of discipline. Punishment often dealt dependent on where you fall on the union "totem pole". Ineffective computer systems shared by multiple dealerships causing lack of productivity.
Advice to Senior Management
Having met Roger Penske on 2 occasions, he seemed to be a warm and decent man who truly believes in his mission statement and code of ethics. I just don't think he has a clue what goes on in his facilities. He needs to listen to his field employees. The integrity hotline is a waste of time. Nothing is done and no feedback given to those filing concerns. I loved working at Penske but hated who I worked for.
Pros
Good learning experience, friendly team environment, open atmosphere, they do what's best for the customer, great resume builder, automotive field experience
Cons
They promote strictly based on seniority, the performance reviews are horrble, the tend to babysit employees, no bonus or incentives, no room for growth.
Pros
The company really tries to work together as a group and they often hold trainings with people from different parts of the company. They have a pleasant corporate culture and have hire great people.
Cons
There are not many downsides except that benefits don't start until you have worked at least 6 months even if you work full time.
Pros
Good compensation.
Good benefits.
If you are willing to move you can keep long term employment.
Cons
If you are family of upper management you have it made.
Not much diversity at the top.
Some HR managers were recruited from the gestapo.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are going to tell operations to do more with less at least listen and provide support.
Tired of hearing you are only as good as what you did yesterday.
Pros
Provide you with current and up to date technology, a very clear environment to work in. People for the most part are friendly and for the most part a positive atmosphere.
Cons
Hard to get recognized for hard work put it.
Advice to Senior Management
they do a fine job of running the store to be profitable.
Pros
Great Compensation and Benefits Plan.
Good training for sales, operations, service and administrative departments bot both exempt and non-exempt associates.
Cons
Succession Planning is a 'Feel Good' exercise and rarely utilized, if you are part of the good old boy network, you can almost get away with anything and stay employed.
Friends and family get promoted prior to those that can actually perform the tasks. Even Senior Management scratch there head at some of the decisions that have been made over the years.
Some Senior Management can be very intimidating, profanity seems to be the norm and constant second guessing abilities of associates.
DO NOT Question Senior Management or your career will be short lived, I know................
Advice to Senior Management
You are only as good as the team you support, try curbing your ego, consider your customers loyalty
and practice what you preach.
Pros
You get to work with the latest technology available to the market today. It is a fast paced business and some are not able to keep up. Penske pays well.
Cons
1. No respect for ones time outside of the office.
2. Leadership acts more as a warden than a manager
3. No real opportunities for career growth
4. Internal training is lacking
Advice to Senior Management
More initiative in internal employees. Invest in your internal team, which will allow them to grow and assist in meeting organizational objectives.
Pros
It's a good company to work for. Most of the time you will need to be mobile for promotions. The benefits are good compared to other transportation companies.
Cons
Most of the time you will need to be mobile for promotions. The company is constantly changing computer systems. Upper management doesn't seem to care how many hours it takes to get the job done, as long as they get the results they want.
Advice to Senior Management
Make a decision on how you want to get the metrics you need to run the company then go for it.
Pros
Most existing sales staff are well experienced veterans with ten or more years of experience. Technicians and management are also well experienced and the team work between departments is refreshing.
Cons
Management is unforgiving toward prospective employees with little or no experience. As with all other vehicle sales jobs every salesperson must maintain a rather tough quota to retain employment.
Advice to Senior Management
Work harder at keeping existing sales staff during the recession in order to retain experienced salespeople and keep turnover low.
Pros
It was a great job
Cons
poor management choices causing loss of business
