Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at Penske Truck Leasing was the challenges that the job presented plus the work environment as well.
Cons
Some of the downsides of the job was lack of help at times in the job and also the hours scheduled
Advice to Senior Management
I would strongly advise that the representatives are staffed at all times since it can becoming quickly overwhelming for them.
Pros
some of the best reasons to work at Penske Truck Leasing Good pay,medical,401k,retirement plan, make good friends and colleagues
Cons
Always changing rules.
Not having all the tool you need to preform work in a timely manner..
Training was rushed and poor (too much crammed into to little time) and not enough..
Never allowed to just do your job..
Micro management...
Don't plan on making this a long term career after 20 years they let you go(so much for dedication)
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees like people and with respect and we will work our hearts out for you,but when you just keep beating us down and making threats. it is very hard to work when you are always looking over your shoulder, and being told to hurry up this has to go
Pros
Six sigma green, blackbelt and master blackbelt program/ project opportunites (from our GE Joint Venture influence), Finance emphasis on driving process improvement through Lean methodologies, extremely competitive benefits. Some management are open to new ideas.
Cons
Outdated systems, politics often lead to steadfast projects, poor interdepartmental communication, some management are stuck on "this is the way we do it because its always been done this way" attitude which is extremely frustrating.
Advice to Senior Management
Top heavy company - balance of compensation is extreme between white collar and senior management; this is the general consensus of at least 90% of my co-workers. If you want to reduce turnover and keep the exceptional talent, increase the compensation packages for the white collar worker and eliminate more of the middle management.
Pros
Learned valuable customer service skills.
Gained experience in the industry
Flexible hours
solid pay
It was a fun place to work.
Cons
The communication between management wasn't the greatest. The hours at times can be long. However there was typically a good balance between life and work.
Advice to Senior Management
Work on communication. Overall a good experience.
Pros
Penske does excellent training.
Compensation and benefits are excellent
Initial education is very good
Cons
Tend to lose people and have them plateau
Focus on non-core business as a company
Problems with GE ownership wanting to be a "green" company
Poor Management at top levels and mid levels
Advice to Senior Management
Lose some management. Most of us are all pals but at a certain point there need to be some indians and a few less chiefs. Focus on your core business, the B2B sale and relationship, and do not market yourself as a National organization if you are going to block people from potential transfers
Pros
Good Corporation to start your career with
Opportunity to diversify and learn
understanding Management
Family Supportive, good work life balance overall
Cons
Average Pay below industry standards
Promotions not very consistent
Growth might be stagnant
Must maintain good rappot overall across all levels of management.
Advice to Senior Management
Be fair in promotions and pay across all employees. Keep up the good work, try getting more business .Focus more on sales and brand marketing.
Pros
Strong employee camaraderie. Opportunity to make extra money through overtime. Interesting training program which allows individuals to go to corporate headquarters for a week.
Cons
Promotions often took several years after being in the rental office. There was little communication between the corporate office and the rental offices.
Advice to Senior Management
There needs to be a stronger field training program with equipment and working out problems with customers. Most Rental Reps had to learn about the job on their own.
Pros
Penske Truck Leasing is an industry leader who is able to outbid competitors. Job security is pretty good.
Cons
It is old school. The senior leaders are almost all white men. Catholicism is the preferred religion. There is not pay equity with diverse employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Embrace diversity. Time to break up the good ol' boys club. The problem is that the senior leaders do not bring any outside insight into the organization. It's the Penske way, and new ideas are shot down from anyone who brings experience in from other organizations.
Pros
Great People
Dynamic everyday
Work on your own without micro managing
very easy to get time off if need be
travel some
Cons
either very busy or very slow
some senior management is more worried about numbers and not about how to obtain the numbers
Advice to Senior Management
I think Penske Is a great place to work especially for a college student. I learned a lot there and was given a lot of responsibility in very little time. overworked on busy days though
Pros
Good Compensation
Good Benefits
Great employee discounts
Opportunity to travel
Cons
Family of upper management get preferential treatment
Do more with less mantra with little support from superiors.
Some HR managers love to enforce the rules and love to dump their work load on you
Advice to Senior Management
Get off the ego trips and get out to the field.
Learn that "you are as only as good as what you did yesterday" is a poor motivational speech
