    Life as an itern

Quality Engineering (Current Employee) Anoka, MN

ProsLots of different projects, experienced management, great intern program making sure you are comfortable and asking about your experience. Not to mention free lunches quite often and got paid to go to a Twins game

ConsBeginning was a little slow, not many projects when first starting, some assemblers on the floor don't treat the young interns with much respect

    Decent Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood People to work with and good products ensure you the ability to sell materials. The product portfolio is large and recognized world wide for its quality.

ConsOperationally a nightmare, the company is disconnected internally and lacks focus. The distribution channel is fragmented and massive increases in Inside Sales support is needed.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave Operations report to the Sales Management team and combine thier efforts so that they are working together to achieve the same goals.

Good experience, but finance really holds the purse strings on every activity

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) North Aurora, IL

ProsGlobal company, good brands, good people

ConsLittle to no training available, little budget money for any extras like travel, office supplies, advertising, etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementCEO Randy Hogan needs to look closer at the management of each facility to make sure they are actually following his philosophies. He believes in marketing, branding, advertising but each facility is not focused on those areas. Finance runs the show and does not promote the brands.

Not a bad place to work at

    Chemist (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsSmall group, work loads come in waves. Get a chance to mingle and work with the engineers.

ConsSince the recession, they have been doing away with many benefits, but I expect them to bring them back.

    Pentair - Stong manufacturing company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsFriendly people, good work / life balance. Ample opportunities for career advancement at the field level. Reasonable compensation. Focus on growth

ConsThere is a significant disconnect between corporate and the field. Historically speaking, the company brings in senior management from outside.

Advice to Senior ManagementExecutives would benefit from more first hand exposure.

Decent place to work -- but how long will you be there???

Customer Support - General (Former Employee) Delavan, WI

ProsWhile working there, they provided training relevant to my current job, as well as providing training that would allow me to be promoted.
The pay and benefits package was very adequate for the position and amount of work required.
Working conditions were good. The co-workers and supervisors always ready to help out if needed.

ConsWhen economic conditions got tough, Pentair's go-to plan was to cut the head count. If there was a poor quarter, everyone was on edge wondering how long they may have a job.
It was also sometimes difficult to get things done because of bureaucratic red tape. Managers had budgets to keep, had to report to corporate HQ, etc.
In several cases, not enough time/energy was spent on product improvement. There were products with known issues that simply never got fixed.

Advice to Senior Management1) Figure out a better way to properly staff for seasonal peaks and valleys.
    2) Try other means of cutting costs rather than sudden (and seemingly random) cuts of head count.
    3) Spend more time and resources improving product quality!
