Current Employee – been working at Pentegra Retirement Services
Pros – *Fairly good benefits package
*Friendly staff
*Established in the industry
*Diverse product base for a smaller company
Cons – *Lack of defined advancement pathways
*Highly departmentalized
*Compensation could be better
Advice to Senior Management – If a company is only as strong as its weakest employee, then Pentegra is probably in trouble. The fact that departments are highly contained within themselves contributes to a group of employees who, although they may know the basics of their own position, lack a broad base of knowledge about the industry. "That's not my job" is also a phrase that is heard often, due, in part, to this strict departmentalization, and the departments are in sore need of better integration. Policies and procedures within departments should be better documented. It would serve the Company well to do a little housecleaning, cross-train and bump up pay to match. Examinations are big in the industry from ASPPA to the Actuarial Exams, and the Company should to more to promote and reward for successful completion. Better training is needed at all levels. The sales team seems to only be doing an adequate job, but could probably do better. Double standards are the norm in many situations. Its not all bad, though - the very friendly staff and decent corporate culture help to offset the cons. The Company has more potential and resources that it uses.

Former Employee – worked at Pentegra Retirement Services full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – your 30 % below market paycheck and you new ability to pretend that you did not hear someone say that.outrageous comment.
Cons – old fashioned internal computer and accounting systems. uneducated workforce. you can't believe your manager who will tell you that things are going to change.
Advice to Senior Management – I think you might want to actually change.

Current Employee – been working at Pentegra Retirement Services
Pros – Free Coffee and tea..woo-hoo thats the best I can come up with
Cons – This is th most dysfunctional place I have ever worked and I have been in this business for many years. Only reason I am here is due to layoffs a few years ago in the biz, and had to work again. It's amazing how this place stays in business - total incompetance at every level and it starts at the top with a CEO who knows nothing about the retirement services industry, and neither does the next level of managment. The corporate culture stems from a resitance to change, and an abundance of people who have never had any training, and would not be able to work at a real company.
Advice to Senior Management – Find someone who knows the business and someone who is a leader not from with, but someone who will bing change and get rid of the dead wood. This place is a disaster!
