I worked at Peoria Chiefs full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great chance to start career in sports. Fun environment and a chance to gain experience in a lot of areas. Chance to be creative at work. Career opportunities exist through networking with people you interact with at ballpark.

    Cons

Work-life balance will prevent company from growing properly. It is not uncommon for full-time employees to work 20+ days in a row in season while averaging 12-15 hours. Pay is okay for entry level, but benefits are non-existent. Pay on an hourly basis is horrible. Average turnover is around 1 year. Long hours breeds negativity in the workplace. Emphasis is placed too much on procedures and not results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Proactive time-off policies will promote company growth. Overworked employees will be more effective by having an occasional day off. "It's part of the job" is not an acceptable answer as to why employees are burnt out.

    Recommends
    Negative Outlook

I worked at Peoria Chiefs as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Behind the scenes of a professional sports club, learn a wide variety of skills in many different departments, family-fun environment, networking opportunities

    Cons

Long hours (16+ hour days), Extremely low income for the amount of work that is done (standard for any minor league baseball team), personality conflicts at times

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your full-time interns at least minimum wage

    Recommends
    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Peoria Chiefs

    Pros

    Work w/ CRM software
    Cool factor working in sports
Meet cubs players when they come down
    Owner is outstanding and generous

    Cons

Very long hours of doing close to nothing
Required to be at every game during the season (70 games)
Pay is hardly enough for hours worked
Take things very seriously for a minor league team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give your interns more responsibility or else give them more days off, it is very frustrating to be required to be in the office when you just do not have anything to do
