    Pros

Generally, it has a good professional work environment, excellent benefits and flexible work schedules. For talented employees there are opportunities at the parent company Pepco Holding Inc.

    Cons

Management has made some bad business decisions over the last 6-7 years, including winding down a division that was making money hand over fist even through the wind down and demanded excessive growth too soon of the other division that could never be like the one they threw away. So, lately, business has been in a serious down turn with significant layoffs in late 2012. As a result employee moral is low and the ones left standing have increased workload demands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the excess executive overhead. There are too many chiefs. One business president or chief operating officer is enough.

    Pros

The benefits were good, pay scale was fair and opportunity to show talents were encouraged.

    Cons

Unfortunately, two divisions of the company were dissolved. Thus, numberous people were let go. Including yours truely. This was a corporate decision due to economic reasons,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since these positions were being eliminated, I wish more assistance to finding another position within or outside of the company could have been given.

    Pros

Could get some notable resume experience

    Cons

Given the possibilities of the Energy Conservation Measures possible today, utility ownership and energy management is an oxymoron and it shows. The constant one way flow of bureaucracy and passive aggressive attitudes from the parent company are inappropriate for the business model in general. To make matters worse, they get filtered through an ineffective hierarchy of management with no actual "management " skills before they get to you. This is one of those companies where everyone is so busy trying to not look back to one guy, that there is no room for genuine teamwork or alliances. They just laid off 100 people and gave everyone from the second rung down a pay cut. Trying to stay objective? Try googling them for law suits and civil rights class action suits.

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere for the most part. It felt like family most of the time. Learned a little more than i already knew.

    Cons

No advancement and no top level support. Can't get anything done with out approval and approval takes MONTHS when it should take weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change. Advance and learn to adapt and utilize people correctly while also compensating correctly.

    Pros

    Flexible work hours
    Small business personal fee
    Social environment

    Cons

Really depends on which group you work for. All groups interact and treat their employees differently. God help you if you get stuck in a bad one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to the COO is to look out for the well being of all employees. A lot of employees are overworked and very underpaid. He needs to step in and not allow some of the crap that goes on there with how employees are treated.

    Pros

The parent company branding is helpful.

    Cons

The leadership was not strong and made some poor choices. I worked under a poor manager and was not given a chance to prove myself. To date she was the worse manager I've ever had.
