I worked at Pepperdine University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Low-stress, great benefits, great pay. The office I worked in had mostly great coworkers. It felt like a group of friends, people look out for each other and help one another out. Staff in general is incredibly friendly and warm. It's easy to predict busy times since it's a university. Absolutely beautiful location! It's a pretty good place to work overall. You're treated very well and mistakes are forgiven and easily overlooked.

    Cons

Not sure if this throughout the whole university or just in my department, but I noticed sexism, cronyism, and poor leadership. Some staff members (including some leaders) did treat women differently than men. I knew several staff members who either did hardly any work or who were in leadership positions but were clearly not qualified do the job well. And some leaders hardly interacted with their staff; they seemed invisible.

Also, employees seem to be very complacent with their work and motivation. People work slow and they like it that way. It's rare to find an employee there who tries to push their department or new ideas forward. And if they do, they're usually met with resistance and management chooses to do things the old way. if you're looking for a challenge and a work environment open to new ideas this is not the place for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop relationships with your employees, let them know how valued they are. Foster creativity and employee's desire to change something. Don't be satisfied with the status quo. Have consequences for employees who deserve it.

I worked at Pepperdine University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked here as a student and loved it. Humble faculty that wanted to give you responsibility and help you through all of your classes. Plus, that view of the ocean from just about anywhere on campus is breath-taking.

    Cons

No room for growth as a student really - made the same hourly wage as a teacher's assistant all four years.

I have been working at Pepperdine University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great people, wonderful mission statement that the university strives hard to fulfill for its students, faculty, and staff. Encourages a very healthy work / life balance with resources for extra-curricular physical exercise and academic learning / lectures. Beautiful location. Supervisor is nice and flexible with hours. I really feel the positive Christian influence permeating throughout the organization.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for advancement / promotion or pay raises

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Award promotion / pay raises based on performance, not on seniority or favoritism.
