I worked at Pepperidge Farm full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay; Everybody below plant management is in this mess together, if that's a "Pro?" Camaraderie in the trenches; A donut for Halloween.

    Cons

No work-life balance - just like every other publicly owned company where market return is the only metric; leadership is non-existent, just a bunch of CMA managers; managers know only what they read in books. have no real work, management, or technical experience; really long-time employees think they know it all, not open to constructive change. Top management thought moving the cheese would be a motivator; Top management can't lead, so they throw a motivational book at you. Top management.......
It's miserably hot in the summer, the equipment is 40-60 years old, the plant is a dying cash cow for the company. Benefits are very costly to the employee and have risen double digits percentage for several years.

    Fulfilling but sometimes exhausting

    I worked at Pepperidge Farm

    Pros

Nice people, great brands and products. Nice to be part of bigger Campbell's organization. Great learning opportunities. Active employee networks like Diversity, etc.

    Cons

People can be passive aggressive, decisions made outside of meetings. Historically a big cultural divide btw the 2 operating divisions. Sometimes can feel like your scope and responsibilities are a level lower than your title.

I worked at Pepperidge Farm full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

New facility, good cafeteria, covered parking

    Cons

The company is totally devoid of leadership, completely adrift. Current leaders consider long range planning as the week they are in. Lack of innovation has left them churning tired line extensions and relying on deep discounting. Sadly the performance has been off the mark for several years. Brand equity is an afterthought.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out how to work together for the greater good of the company. Too many silos and not nearly enough collaboration. Better develop a plan to turn this ship around, a once high performing company is stuck in neutral.

I have been working at Pepperidge Farm full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Commission based pay, flexible schedule as long as work gets done

    Cons

Poor communication, difficult management that is not very involved...likes to place blame and not take responsibility, hardly interact with any members of upper management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get involved!! Understand the business at all levels. Upper management needs to hit the streets with the distributors.

I worked at Pepperidge Farm full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, nice new facility, appropriate salary.

    Cons

I was with the company for many years in a variety of roles and was under development for a more senior position, however in the last year everything changed and people turned on each other, politics and numbers became the only thing they cared about because consumers are not connecting with the brand anymore. The company also has very large challenges figuring out how to execute and market innovation because they lack the infrastructure (internal and external) to create really great products and still make money. They are only concerned about building the base business back up and doing flavor line extensions rather than investing in assets that other companies have had for years. Lastly, I have never seen so many people either leave or get their position eliminated because they believe the company should be run by a much younger generations with limited management experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope the company figures out that seasoned individuals that know what they are doing and have been with the company for many years with passion and great leadership are thought about more before letting them go or before they leave.

I have been working at Pepperidge Farm

    Pros

It is very sad to say, but there really are not many pros in working at the Farm right now...

    Cons

Too many lay-offs have undermined trust and willingness to voice opinions, management has more passion for politics and compliance than the people and business

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are hurting our wonderful company; you need to put your egos aside, get closer to business, stop laying off highly-experienced employees b/c there is so much we can learn from them, and finally, we look to you for a vision of the future, and the support in resources and tools to achieve that vision through our work...and THAT is motivating!

    Cons

Company has lost its feeling of family and community as more and more management from the parent company have taken over.
