    Pros

Great growth potential for entry level employees, true open door management, comfortable work environment

    Cons

Salary is lagging behind regional standard, too many products currently offered causes confusion and obstruction, poor communication between company divisions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out what we need to sell, jettison the rest, and allow other departments to push back on sales about questionable statements of work

    Pros

Fun Positive Energy in the company headquarters

Communicates well company wide (monthly meetings and biweekly updates)

    Great 401k matching (5% matching + 1% just because)

    Cons

Acquired Companies too fast, feeling growing pains.

Difficulty integrating new and better products (Basically they want to sell clients a product that hasnt seen much revision UI wise. Think windows 3.1 kind of dialog feeling)

Company culture is not present at remote offices.

HQ centric. If you don't work in KC, you don't matter. Basically, we working as a remote team needed the HQ team to develop something on their main product. It took them 6 months and we needed to have their Director of Engineering to tell the teams to actually do the work. (They kept pushing it off)

HQ talent and development speed is incredibly slow.

Too much integration. Want to make their product one monolithic product rather than having the smaller products accel at what they do.

    --Local Office

Terrible people to work with. Very caustic, ego driven, high pressure, mentality is: DEVELOP DEVELOP DEVELOP!

Incredibly unprofessional work environment. People yell at one another. "You F***ed up the build! Go fix it!" rather than "Hey the build is broken, could you take a look at what caused it? I think its related to X, Y or Z in your code"

No time to think or learn new technology

These are not fun people you want to hang out with outside of work.

Poor management chain. The main manager works from home.

    Poor path to promotion

Doubled the physical size of the office and then laid off half the engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HIRE MORE YOUNG AND UPBEAT PEOPLE.

Eliminate the strict usage of scrum

Get rid of rally, its terribly slow and is only good for making managers feel good that the numbers are changing.

Make the remote offices feel more like members of the team. Integrate cross functional teams with the KC office.

Encourage more travel between HQ and remote offices.

    Pros

Really great people, some of the best and brightest I've worked with. Very fun place to work, easy to develop great relationships inside and outside of work. The technology is really solid and the company is committed to taking care of customers and providing the support they need to succeed.

    Cons

I left because I didn't see how I was going to grow into bigger roles. Perceptive didn't have an organized way of developing people for leadership roles and I couldn't see how it The acquisition by Lexmark damped the original culture somewhat, but not as bad as I'd feared.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to grow employees into leadership roles and provide a career path.

    Pros

    Very professional and organized company.

    Cons

The business analyst position is basically a telemarketing position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't fool anyone into thinking you are not trying to advertise a telemarketing position as a legit business analyst position.

    Pros

Great vacation policy, happy hours, casual environment, you get to know everyone in the building- lots of cross-functional opportunities

    Cons

Lack of career progression in certain departments, a lot more political than 5 years ago when it was a private company, family fun activities have been eliminated, too many people "own" the same process and don't want to help push change to a process that is broken or needs improving

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't become another typically "office space" environment. Bring back the things that made the company fun! While you do not have to have extravagant Christmas parties, don't take away all family activities. Replace them with something lower cost. Offer career progression in all departments. Make sure those doing the dirty work are properly recognized.

    Pros

Pretty good software company to work for in Kansas City. Not sure why there is such a low ranking. Looking around at other software companies in Kansas City I cannot find one that I would rate as high as this company. Sure there could be some improvements but I am satisfied with working here.

    Good work/life balance.
    Flexible Vacation Policy.

    Cons

Professional Services Policies are a mess
