I have been working at Performance Software full-time

    Pros

-The people are fantastic. The sharpest and most dedicated engineers I've worked with
-Management really tries to create a balance of work and "life"
-Experienced engineers not forced into management...great technical career ladder
    -Casual atmosphere

    Cons

-As with most jobs in the industry, there are times when you need to step up and work a bunch of OT
-The work isn't always the sexiest, although you are encourages to thing of creative ways to work on boring stuff (tools...)
    - Too many changes coming from the very top...a lot of "throw it on the wall and see if it sticks" decisions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top management (CEO/Chairman) needs to trust his management and staff to make decisions without second guessing them. Give them expectations ("what"'s) and let them decide "how" to accomplish them, just like is done for engineers. You hired and grew these people, give them their deserved authority and let them do what they are so great at (day to day running) which gives you more time to think about the larger direction forward which is so vitally important.

    Pros

    - People. There are a lot of fun people to work with there.

    Cons

    - Salary is not competitive.
     - Lack of diversity.
     - Schedule overload.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'm not sure what happened - this place used to be a great place to work. At some point, the culture changed. A lot of folks are getting burned out.

    Dead end casket job

    Pros

You can search for a new job on the laptop they give you.

    Cons

Poor ramp up and zero standardization means that you will be left wondering what is going on half of the time with a team wondering the same. Contract layoffs means if you are on a contract that gets shutdown, you're out of work w/o pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't hire Full Time Engineers. Hire contact bunnies or high school grads with testing experience. Pay grade is a joke for any Full Time Engineer out of college and the work is monotonous and uninspiring.

The simple truth is that better opportunities exist elsewhere, especially for entry level.

I have been working at Performance Software full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff, free (junk) food. Yes, profit sharing is nice - if the company was profitable.

    Cons

Hilarious pay grade, limiting atmosphere, no diversity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fundamental problems lie in the company’s corporate structure as there are no real opportunities for upward potential as an employee. Expect to be shuffled onto various legacy-heavy aviation related projects where most, if not all, of your time will be spent testing. Due to contract based work, projects can come and go in a flurry. While this may normally translate into diverse development experience leading to various positions, it doesn't happen here. Expect to grind it out with mediocre pay. Although somewhat justified by a laissez-faire office attitude, PSWare is experiencing a downward trend - caught between contract bids, standardization issues, and an aging identify.

I worked at Performance Software full-time

    Pros

It's fun. Lots of interesting projects. Fun company outings. Benefits are good. Year end profit share is real nice. The working environment is "cozy", small company feel.

    Cons

The culture, what's expected by management, is not clearly expressed.
Measurable goals and objectives are not laid out.
The old saying “one ah-???? wipes out all the Ata-boys” is true here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to "Grow" your employees.
Change your review process so that it's not so subjective.
    Add some metrics.

I have been working at Performance Software

    Pros

Opportunities to work on many different projects. Free food and drinks.

    Cons

Demanding hours with no overtime pay. You have to be within a specific group of people to get the recognition and promotions that you deserve. If you are not within that group, very little opportunity for advancement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some employees who have a lot of experience working on various projects might be leaving because they are not getting the recognition and promotions. This will affect the company because they will be leaving with a lot of knowledge that the company depends on for certain projects.
