Awesome

Project Manager (Former Employee)
Las Vegas, NV

I worked at Perini full-time for more than 7 years

ProsOnce in a lifetime projects, difficult schedules, most of the people.

ConsThe Sr. Project Manager that was there was incompetent.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of some of the upper management who were totally out of there league. It was sometimes embarrassing when the individual who is supposed to be one of the faces of your company - cannot even speak or use a computer.

Incompetent Management who Abuse Employees

Finance (Current Employee)
Sylmar, CA

I have been working at Perini full-time for more than a year

ProsLess then 1 hour drive from anywhere in Los Angeles.

ConsUpper management, executives included, mentally abuse the employees. They insult people based on their appearance, happenings in their personal lives, and any little issue is immediately made to be entirely your fault and a reflection of your incompetence.

The people who work at Corporate seem to be universally unhappy and arguing at work is not uncommon. The office is drab and depressing. The buildings are surrounded with barbed wire. Employees avoid helping others.

Some upper managers are incompetent. They seem to lack the general knowledge and skills required for their position, but they will take opportunities to make you feel inferior and helpless.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou don't pay enough to make people miserable. Other companies that work people less, have better facilities, and treat employees with respect are paying more.

PBC

Assistant Superintendent (Former Employee)
Las Vegas, NV

I worked at Perini full-time for more than 7 years

ProsEveryone is very knowledgeable in their field. The upper management cares about their employees. The engineers were all on top of the RFI's and change orders. They have an open-door policy which proves to work.

ConsThere is the "click" factor amongst a few. The supervisor that I had had was not the most pleasent, but did teach me quite a bit.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you have a knowledgeable General Superintendent but he/she has a bad way of (or do not) teaching their subordinates please get with the subordinate to see what and if there is a problem.

falling apart

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Sylmar, CA

I have been working at Perini

Prosnewly merged company and divisions provide some opportunities if you are a new hire (too bad for all those laid off recently)

you also get to be proud of some of the big construction projects that are built

Cons- executives are incompetent, greedy, and foul tempered
- benefits are terrible (dental insurance barely covers anything, you get 5 vacation days after working for 18 months)
- we're lucky that we even get drinking water and some bad coffee in the break room
- Sylmar is a terrible location
- bickering among coworkers and infighting between departments
- lots of incompetent workers
- layoffs of qualified personnel

Advice to Senior Managementimprove the computer network, please put some money into it -- you have no idea how much productivity is lost each day

Big Construction Company

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Perini

Prosemployees are very professional and competent

ConsUpper management currently (2009) is not interested in taking care of their people. It is a concensus that this management practice is being passed down by the CEO.

Advice to Senior ManagementTalk to your middle managers to find out who is worth their salt and compensate them accordingly. This should by based by division and by which one is making money. Sometimes people look at things too closely and don't get the big picture, Perini Tutor is currently looking at things too broadly and aren't seeing who their money makers are.

Not a very good work-life balance

Engineering Intern (Current Employee)

I have been working at Perini as an intern for less than a year

ProsYou get to work on major projects that affect thousands if not millions of people.
There is a lot of work to go around.

ConsThe hours are very long and you have to arrive early and leave late. Company culture can be drastically improved.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter Company Culture

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
