    Buy not build.

    Scientist (Former Employee)

ProsVariety of resources. Lots of smart people. Good overall work environment and pleasant group of people.

ConsCompany is not innovative. As a large company it is risk-averse and prefers to enter new areas via acquisition of smaller companies instead of growing capacity from within. This makes it a bit boring if you are interested in trying new things.

Advice to Senior ManagementOrganic growth is as important as acquisitional growth.

    Unfortunate.

    Kept Changing, Typical (Former Employee)
    Shelton, CT

ProsI did have some good supervisors, but they are all gone now.

ConsLayoffs every quarter (I assume to stay below the radar). Everyone is running scared. No teamwork. Can't blame them.

However, it does leave a company full of :"yes" men. Poor souls, they are all too scared to raise even a slightly different viewpoint.

ProsPE is a well-run and very focused company dedicated to developing and producing unique and excellent products that make a difference in patients' lives.

ConsIf you are a company acquired by Perkin Elmer. Run for your life. The will shut you down and move you to Hopkinton. They invest nothing into R&D. They inquire companies and run the products into the ground.

    Advice to Senior ManagementNone

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

The best and hardest job I have had.

    Customer Support Engineer (Former Employee)
    Tampa, FL

ProsGreat salary and benefits, car, gas, cell, work from home. Going to different site and meeting new people.

ConsCannot deviate from plan. Everything is about making money. I got the feeling that i needed to sell more than I needed to fix issues.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to who PE was, a service organization with great instrumentation.

    Lab works experience

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOver 500 k invested, with 5 great years of dealing with Perkin Elmer.....

ConsUntil today. Informatics team did not deliver product and expected my company to pay 50% above the cost of the project.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe careful who manages your projects. Bad decisions lead to jeopardize future investments in this company. Tomorrow I begin my search for companies that can meet our needs as a laboratory with funds to spend.
