I have been working at PerkinElmer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Comfortable working environment. Brilliant people all around.

    Cons

The company could probably do more to grow their people both personal and professional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Perhaps assist employee career development by offering more training.

I have been working at PerkinElmer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Learned a lot of new skills, including mobile. Training was good. Worked with extremely high quality software developers and QA

    Cons

They do not have a good software vision. The management team is all over the place. Very little information is trickled down from the top to the developers. As a result you never know what is going on or where you are headed. Focus and goals and projects are subject to change out from under you, drastically, at literally at any moment. They just don't seem to know what their goal is...

I worked at PerkinElmer as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The people at HQ are all very friendly people. Very nice facilities. Received benefits even as an intern.

    Cons

Management is weak for the most part. Many employees are too concerned with title rather than their duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise management to be more active at the departmental level and focus more on employee interaction as the company is not that large.

Good ideas but major lack of resources

I have been working at PerkinElmer full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The products the company makes have the potential to positively impact people across the globe. Some room for mobility both physically (many offices around the world) and career-wise.

    Cons

A major lack of resources and a fixation on cutting costs and improving productivity has resulted in an overworked and under-supplied environment. Definitely an old-school company that still thinks spreadsheets can be used for everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in hiring some talented people in roles that need to be filled (you've got enough PhD's please hire some people with real world experience and skills)

    I worked at PerkinElmer

    Pros

The people who work at PE have their hearts in the right place and are generally very bright. The company promotes international travel and experience for its employees.

    Cons

Employees are often at the whim of a management team that changes direction too frequently to be effective over the long term. The management team also tends to talk in a supportive way about products, categories or businesses but not back that support with actions.

    Upper Management losing focus

I have been working at PerkinElmer full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The total compensation is quite competitive, and there are some great mid level managers. In addition, my department does have a great opportunity for personal growth and training available.

    Cons

Upper management has lost site of the importance of a positive company culture, and teamwork. There have been many bottom line cuts which have contributed to a loss of morale and innovation from the company as a whole. As others have stated, when there is a sole focus of the current quarter you will start to see a small negative effect on the bottom line in the future. Unfortunately, those losses are starting to mount and the general trend is currently in the negative direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be action to support your vision of building a positive company culture that promotes teamwork and innovation.

Mediocre company, largely driven by spreadsheet and quarterly results. . .

    Pros

Largely good people to work with. interesting projects and opportunities. Span of business should lead to good synergies and increasing cross-division co-operation leading to enhanced business.

    Cons

Weak and uninspiring management. Overly reactive to a bad quarter. Very insulated teams with minimal sharing across divisions. Limited long term view and investments are given a short time to succeed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in touch with your people, your customers. Its not just about the shareholders!

    Stay with a strategy.

I have been working at PerkinElmer full-time

    Pros

Bright and hard working people, though they are slowly walking out the door. Fair pay. Flexibility.

    Cons

The Caliper merger and resulting leadership is failing, yet the employees are the ones taking the fall. Constant talk of growth is counteracted by non-stop cuts. Severe lack of patience and knowledge about product lines is hampering growth. Customers are becoming dissatisfied due to cuts in all areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the products so that you can truly evaluate growth potential, instead of using spreadsheets and models to make key decisions. Replace accountants and analysts with people who actually understand the products and the business. Understand that the web and remote communication is not the answer to your problems. Hire professionals, not the cheapest people you can find.
