Pros
I feel the career paths are not well defined at Perot but the opportunities exist if you are looking for them. The company is growing and creating lots of new roles as it evolves. Overall a great place to work with much better benefits after the Dell acquisition.
Cons
Not a lot of transparency on job titles and upper management decision making.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall a good job by management. Sometimes I feel that we push a lot of work offshore even when it doesn't make sense.
Pros
- Work/Live balance
- Acknowledgment of good performance
- Array of industries to work with (Healthcare, Finance, Government, Energy, Telecoms)
Cons
- Large variance of caliber inside the organization, possibly related to network effects
- Health and 401(k) benefits were becoming less attractive, but they might now be different after Dell bought it
Advice to Senior Management
The large pool of commodity MCSE-type developers should be complemented with a strong build-up of experts from the Open Source community to stay competitive in the DC space.
Pros
The team based approach
Very highly competitent associates
Nice campus at the former corporate site in Plano
The benefits were average compared with other companies
Cons
Interest is only in cost cutting measures by shifting US based jobs to India, China Mexico Romania ect
Sr Leadership is good old boys club
Advice to Senior Management
You reap what you sow, and if the attitude that offshore labor is a more effective solution to cost savings, then leadership is myopic
Pros
- Hard working and dedicated team members.
- Committed to client service and success
- Challenging assignments and development opportunities
- professional development opportunities
Cons
- cost pressure and mediocre compensation model on the low side
- annual bonuses not consistent or significant for front line staff
- the bench is a dangerous place
Advice to Senior Management
- Need to continue to invest in developing and growing associates
-
Pros
Good benefits, fitness center, many smart people, on some projects - good process, after some time can work remotely from home
Cons
Underpaid, favoritism, sales get contracts that smell bad, people don't talk
Advice to Senior Management
Reward people for real achievements
Pros
- Great team members
- Genuinely good people and talented associates
- Fitness center on site
- Buddy up with senior management to progress
Cons
- Like many others that have commented in reviews, compensation is on the low side
- Pay scale structure is complex and designed to justify keeping you at a lower salary
- Performance reviews are a joke and bogus! Managers are given "quotas" of employees they need to "fit" in the respective performance categories.
- Promotions with a pay raise are non-existent. You are given more and additional responsibilities but no corresponding pay raise.
- Don't ever get close to the bench.
Advice to Senior Management
Reward people for their performance and honestly and objectively evaluate and categorize your associates. If you claim to attain to the "most respected IT organization in the industry" you can only get there with a majority of talented, distinguished, and exceptional team members. I'm talking front line folks too, and not just top heavy management. Make your performance rating curves reflect this reality. The majority of your employess are "distinguished and exceptional", not just successful or partially successful. This attitude toward your performance ratings is making your best people leave or actively looking to leave at the first available opportunity and you will likely be at the point where your bell curves will eventually reflect the reality you are currently portraying!
Pros
Good learning opportunity - Reputable company - Professional environment and people
Cons
Bonuses are promised but not paid or just a little were paid to majority of employees even with acceptable and satisfactory performance. No raise or max 3% . Too much work. It is all about work and not employee life. They don’t care about employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay the bonuses promissed and raise the salaries.
Pros
Professional work environment. Consistently treated with respect and opinions (when solicited) are welcomed. With the acquisition from Dell, things are up in the air, but they are selling the acquisition as a 'growth strategy'.
Cons
Lack of consistent feedback regarding performance.
Annual reviews are little more than going through the motions.
Pay is average, and salaries increases have been frozen for 2009.
Best way to get a good pay raise is to either switch to another position internally or leave the company and come back at a later time.
Advice to Senior Management
Engage your employees more often, listen to feedback, offer opportunities to let employees take more ownership and leadership in their work.
Make the benefits competitive again!
Pros
You could stick your nose into other projects and help out if/when you wanted to. Great place for a generalist to learn different things if you're willing to step outside of your comfort zone.
Cons
"Bag the Big Elephant" mentality. No room for thinking like a small company. They tended to forget a lot of business in the medical community that could have been tapped from forming smaller more agile teams to go after local physician groups.
The day they went public is the day it started going downhill. Ross Jr. is a real-estate developer. He couldn't care less about Perot being a technology company.
Advice to Senior Management
Get employees to buy back the company. Go private again and become the company it was 15 to 20 years ago. Don't be afraid to let your good people strike out and bring business in without the overhead of your over-priced hosting solution in your fat, overfed data center.
Pros
A lot of the people are great, and they tend to give you amazing opportunities
Cons
The salaries are low, and the potential for financial growth is minimal. It is hard when you come in at a low salary hoping for increases, and you don't get them.
Advice to Senior Management
Make sure your employees know how much you care. Reward them for the hard work.
