Pros
great people to work with in store along with the great customers you get to meet through out your day
Cons
always lots of stuff to do around the store and never enough staff on to do it.
more of the training was on the fly and always rushed
Advice to Senior Management
make sure you have the proper coverage on the floor and make sure to train you staff properly before sending them to work alone on the sales floor.
Pros
The people I work with are a lot of fun, everyone is close like a family. We joke around and have a fun time while at work. The training is great, they pay for you to go to school and learn to groom and teach you everything you need to know. The pay is commission based so you have the ability to make a lot of money.
Cons
They care more about "making plan" than they do about their employees commission. I can groom 5-6 dogs a day on average. Durring slow season we have been grooming 2 a day, not making any money and instead of cutting down on groomers they are sending more people to academy and having more people transfer from other stores so they can make more money.
Management is ok but they don't follow policies. They pick and choose which ones they want to follow.
There is A LOT OF DRAMA! Working with 13 other girls in one tiny room means cat fights.
Advice to Senior Management
Think about your employees and not just about your profit. We are loosing money so that you can make more.
Pros
-everyone (customers, management, coworkers) were friendly!
-get to greet people's pets and see different breeds that you may otherwise not encounter.
-the work was easy and although stressful at times mostly laid back.
-pay was good for retail.
Cons
-the occasional angry customer, but nothing that was out of the ordinary for a retail job.
-on your feet A LOT, have to walk around if on the floor and can be boring if no customers are in the store, but if that happens facing can cure boredom.
Advice to Senior Management
-the only advice I can think of is to praise your employee's more because they work very hard, but overall I would say good job!
Pros
Great benefits and a very easy going company. It is hard work an sometimes it is hard to get noticed for the work you do. You really have to stand out.
Cons
Very hard to be promoted to higher management positions would rather hire outside of company instead of promote within which upsets current employees that are hard working!! High turnover rate due to this!
Advice to Senior Management
Evaluate current employed before hiring outside of the company. Current employees deserve those positions more! Make raises more than ten or fifteen cents! Those raises are ridiculous! Also treat all managers with respect the salon managers are treated like red headed step children!
Pros
Get to interact and work with animals on a daily basis
Friendly, fun work environment
Management always listens to problems/suggestions
Cons
Sick animals that you have to take care of in the backroom
The pay starts at minimum wage and raises are small
Advice to Senior Management
Pay increase would be nice, minimum wage hardly works for anyone anymore. More room for advancement and growth would also be great.
Pros
Good pay, awesome clients, good benefits.
Cons
Management does not care about their employees. They are cold hearted & mean. You can't go to the careline or to the DM with a problem because its turned around & shoved back in your face. Some. Coworkers are ok but most are not.
Advice to Senior Management
My advice is to please me decent human beings & care for your associates. And please, for the love of God, leave facebook out of it! It is a free Country & I do believe freedom of speech is in the constitution. GET OVER FACEBOOK & PRAISE YOUR EMPLOYEES ONCE IN A WHILE!!! You just might have a happier workplace. And to Mr. CEO, you've got plenty of money. Learn some morals now!!!!
Pros
Good discount if you have a pet, nice coworkers, great information.
Cons
They only give full time hours to managers and advancements are rare.
Pros
Large company with large company perks and benefits. Many opportunities for growth and training if you put in the effort. "Pet people" tend to be kinder and more caring creating a very friendly atmosphere. Great to be able to bring in you pet on Fridays.
Cons
Hard work is expected. You are likely to work several weekends and 40 hour weeks are a luxury (depends on the department).
Advice to Senior Management
Clearly in the right direction leading us through the recession as well as you did! It would be nice if you opened up more sharing between departments - start with the Org chart. Keeping it secret is hampering communication and not an effective anti-competitive measure due to many external sites keeping similar information.
Pros
fun people to work with
Cons
petty things happen and they are blown out of proportion
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees
Pros
PetSmart is definitely a company that embraces its employees on the corporate side. They conduct surveys every year to determine how things are running from the point of view of the employees. I've never heard of any other company doing that!
Cons
Prepare for monotony. It's not a matter of if you will get bored, it's a matter of when. 8 hours of standing in the same place day in and out doing nothing but preventing bloodshed.
Safety is secondary in the Hotel. As long as a customer is willing to push money into the register, the dog is as good as gold no matter how many times they've bitten people.
Pay is extremely low for an animal care job, especially considering the work involved. Imagine shepherding 15 dogs for near minimum wage. Awful.
The people you depend on to manage you have never worked your position, so they have no idea who the dogs are or what they are doing,
Training is SCANT. Confidence is low, so we're constantly losing staff which puts pressure on us to do the work of 2-3 people.
Advice to Senior Management
The way the Hotel works needs to be revised. You're looking for professionalism, but you're not planning for it. Increase the pay by at least $3 more an hour to receive more serious individuals for these positions.
