    Pros

I was able to grow from cashier to General Manager in less then four years. Company values it's employees and promotes internal growth.

    Cons

Payroll cut backs do not match the values that the company is trying to enforce.

I have been working at Petco

    Pros

Great people. Nice facility with gym and 2 dog play areas. We can bring our dogs to work which reminds us where and why we work for Petco.

    Cons

No cons so far except a bit of drive in traffic for me.

I worked at Petco full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Animals. Nothing better than getting to work with beautiful living creatures.

    Cons

Corporate doesn't seem as dedicated to really pushing better companion relations. The last 10 years have changed from being high end retail to exactly like petsmart

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Skeleton crew on freight days are a joke. One guy cant carry the load and be customer service and cashier. You're asking for 12 hrs of work to be done in 6. Have a part time cashier help split the load. Simple.

I have been working at Petco part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Always around animals! People bring in their dogs, cats, pigs (YES, PIGS!), etc.
Constantly learning new info about all kinds of animals

    Cons

As with any customer service job, customers can be very demanding/unreasonable. With some pet owners, I've seen the worst.

I have been working at Petco

    Pros

Petco is a very appreciative employer. They give each individual a chance to learn and grow within the company. They also truly care about the animals and make them the first priority. The organization of the company is great. The resources they provide so I can do my job accurately are incredible.

    Cons

There are at times too many steps to clarify the work throughout the day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Be more approachable.

    Cons

    NONE Great place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Petco

    Pros

The company values relationships rather than transactions, which are built by engaging, educating, and getting to know the customers and their pets by name. There is growth potential within the company. This company tried to 'grow' associates so they can be promoted to higher positions within the company.

    Cons

It is retail, which has its ups and downs all together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership is somewhat inconsistent throughout the stores, finding key players is hard, and once you've got them they're hard to keep.

I have been working at Petco

    Pros

Great people, there is a clear line of sight between team vision and corporate vision. The senior levels of leadership I worked with were all solid, smart, and believe in positioning their employees and the customer in positions to be successful

    Cons

Things move a little slow, so you have to stay on top of certain levels of leadership to ensure progress but that is it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to do what you do, and believe in your people.
