Depressing to witness the decline of what was once a great company to work for

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Princeton, NJ

I worked at PharmaNet Development Group

ProsIn the beginning, PharmaNet was arguably the best CRO to work for - well managed, concern for employees, good compensation.

ConsUnrelenting pressure to increase billable hours - expected to give up vacation yet bonuses reduced
Massive layoffs - insufficient staff

Advice to Senior ManagementReturn the focus of the organization to drug development. Reintroduce promotions and career development. Promote a sense of job security.

Good place to wait for a better job opportunity

Senior Scientist (Former Employee)
Princeton, NJ

I worked at PharmaNet Development Group

ProsPharmaNet was a good place to start and learn about the bioanalytical/CRO industry. Because of the constant turbulence within the company, the high employee turnover allows for an individual to step-up and take on more responsibility earlier than other companies.

ConsCommunication from upper management never matches the actions they take. There is too many managers and not enough workers. Recent turmoil throughout the company has many good, knowledgable employees seek out other job opportunities. Staff cuts has made home and work life balance impossible. Salary for laboratory workers was lower than industry.

Advice to Senior ManagementYour good employees have been left bitter and are now being employed by your clients and competitors. Start having your actions match your communications to reverse any negative effects from the recent loses.

Used to be better but not now

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at PharmaNet Development Group

ProsPay fairly decent as compared to other companies
Location easy to commute to
Some nice colleagues to work with
Able to telecommute at times

Cons'Blame first' environment instead of seeking solutions to issue first
Highly Political Environment-some bullies in company
Favoritism ripe here
People seem to get promoted that are undeserving or keep upper positions when it is clear they don't know what they are doing-upper management knows this but does nothing
Poor and lack of Senior Management communication
Benefits too expensive as compared to other companies for same coverage

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter communication to employees
Be fair in promotions- promote those deserving. Remove dead wood
Know what your company does- don't just put on paper that the company does something but not know what that something entails

PharmaNet stands apart from other CROs as a great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at PharmaNet Development Group

ProsPharmaNet has high standards for quality and customer focus; employees are treated respectfully and given opportunity for development; despite the workload, management understands the importance of a healthy work-life balance and encourages employees to attend their kids' ballgames and school events

ConsWe are working in a very competitive environment which results in an emphasis on efficiency so there's a lot of pressure to pull your weight

Advice to Senior ManagementThe Pharma Forums are a great way to keep up-to-date on our performance and the strategic plans for the future

Good place to work but company must settle down

Senior CRA (Former Employee)

I worked at PharmaNet Development Group

ProsMid-Level management provides good support to employees. Training given to new employees is good. Opportunities for advancement are available. Staff support one another and pitch in to help one another.

ConsThe company needs to show the employees that it has stablized from the recent turbulence. Compensation for CRAs and support staff should be more in line with the competion CROs.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management needs to pay attention to the direction that the internal culture is taking. Senior management also need to show that they are controlling the company and not the private investors. Jeff McMullen was doing a better job before JLL became involved.
