I have been working at Pharmaceutical Product Development full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Chocolate Wednesday. PTO accrues pretty quickly. There is a snack machine.

    Cons

They talk about employee engagement and work-life balance but don't walk the walk. Client expectations are not managed and the brunt falls on the front line staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Med Comm over-promises and under-bids big contracts to get the client - employees are dispensable. Very little consideration for the front-line staff. Unpredictable shifts - last minute changes are common. OT the norm, and the expectation. Can't transfer out to different dept until after 2years. Good luck lasting that long!

    Pros

One deal breaker that shines with PPD is the employees, good group of people to work with which is a morale booster.

    Cons

Poor salary, more so if you have been with the company for a certain amount of years. Management needs to listen to employees concerns, and be flexible with work/home life, Promote within first, before going external.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen, respect, and promote your employees that have acquired good talent and skills set on the job. Also need to show employees you value he/she talent.

    Cons

Long hours, but part of the industry, but work life balance is managed with the ability to work when I need to.

    Pros

PPD is a very strong and growing company. They are well poised to continue to gain market share in an industry that will continue to grow. Many positions give you the flexibility to work at the office or from home

    Cons

In BD there is a lot of travel. People at PPD put in a ton of hours and that is just the expected. I believe it is standard in the industry

I worked at Pharmaceutical Product Development full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A good place for training in the CRO industry training. Good SOPs. Good document templates and standardized forms and procedures.

    Cons

Studies are understaffed across all departments which results in heavy workloads for all. Very fast work pace. Overtime is a regular occurrence for which salaried employees are not paid. Difficult to get support both inter- and intra- departmentally, as everyone is so overloaded.
