    Pros

Great starting experience and great place to inform public and actively make a change in the world.

    Cons

Great opportunitis for employment, it's just because budgets are low--sometimes the work isn't worth the pay at a long time standpoint.

I have been working at Philadelphia Zoo part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Learned a lot about flora and fauna. Able to increase my responsibilities from just an educator to s supervisor/project manager level.

    Cons

No permanent positions available, even after 3 years of dedicated volunteer and part time work.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge your staff's accomplishments and promote from within. You have a wealth of dedicated part time staff members/volunteers that go above and beyond because of their love of the zoo. Reward them for their efforts.

I have been working at Philadelphia Zoo part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fast paced and friendly atmosphere to work in, your balance of work time and Lag-time are pretty balanced.

    Cons

Sometimes it does get so fast paced you get a little overwhelmed (especially on the weekends), and I do have some issues with the way the scheduling is.

    Advice to Management

The scheduling could use a little tweaking, especially where advance notice of the shifts are concerned. There were times when I had little or no advance notice of a scheduled work day, as the schedule goes up on one of my days off.

  7. Working as a manager is tough but the job is interesting.

    Appreciate your managers!

I worked at Philadelphia Zoo part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

As "roaming" guest information, I got to walk around the zoo all day and tell people about the animals. It was AWESOME!

    Cons

I was always cut early if the zoo wasn't busy enough. It was NEVER busy enough. Also, we were asked to report any peacock nests we found. I never did because I didn't want them to be "neutralized".

    Pros

Great place to be Friendly staff Management is very open and communicates well with everyone Has many ways to encourage happiness of the employees

    Cons

Vendors in the zoo, make the employees look bad Lower pay in comparison to other fields but understandable for a non profit

    Advice to Management

Work with outside vendors to improve the guest happiness with the staff. Vendors seem to have more interactions with the guests.
