I have been working at Philips Consumer Lifestyle full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Dynamic products and processes. Market place interaction is fantastic. Bright new talent arriving daily. Corporate structure and strategic direction are clear.

    Cons

Not a team environment, very political with the organization, advisable to keep eyes open and resume up to date. Many good people going through the organization quickly. Culture of team not clear in practice

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The locations culture is vague - Documented and Verbal discussions does not match the actual evidence when reviewed. The talent turnover rate warrants review, is it driven by market dynamics or the vague culture. What is presented should be able to be found in practice. Best of luck to the team.

I have been working at Philips Consumer Lifestyle full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good salaries, international experience, mostly good people

    Cons

eurocentric, top heavy, price oriented, lack of marketing savvy and imagination, bureaucratic, fixated on Philips as a brand

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You want to be a speed boat but have an oil-tanker's speed and maneuverability. Innovation is smothered under the bureaucracy, rigid thinking and penny pinching management of the divisions. Whoop-de-doo with your Brand roll out, big deal, you change the shield. And what does "Innovation * you" mean?

I worked at Philips Consumer Lifestyle full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The Company has been trying to find its territory and meaningful proposition for a few years. As a large conglomerate, it's found the process to be hard and deep. It has made good improvenments and, importantly, has kept a strong focus on making sense of it internally and externally.

    Cons

On the flip side, it still has improvenments to make regarding simplifying its matrix, multi-level structure to become a faster, less complex organization. Also, fierce competition in some key consumer segments have impacted a few core businesses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Highlight focus on simplifying processes and invest and nurture the Brand consistently.

I worked at Philips Consumer Lifestyle full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Decent work/life balance if you're on the right team
    - Great benefits since its a global company
    - Good products that have a long heritage
    - Excellent culture with good people

    Cons

    - No career growth unless willing to move around a lot
    - Discount program sucks
    - Lots of meetings with no agenda
    - Lack of career development

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Moral is low at the company and people are tired of the politics. Make clearly defined career paths that the employees agree with and appreciate your people more. You say you're a people company but you don't care about your people.

I have been working at Philips Consumer Lifestyle

    Pros

Flat hierarchy provides a lot of opportunity for a wide-breadth of work experience via lateral moves. Openness to cross-functional moves, which brings new perspectives to a team. International work force, especially in global HQ. Good at offering international work experience to employees. Beginning to create a Consumer Lifestyle product portfolio that makes more sense in the "health and wellness" area.

    Cons

Flat hierarchy does allow for much team management experience until later on. Continuous cross-functional moves means a lot of lost history and time spent bringing new people up to speed on their new function. Few opportunities for promotion within the company. Recent financial announcements have created a culture that does not value innovation or market share gain (despite statements to the contrary) but rather cost-cutting and retrenching to find a way forward. The move to become a "health and wellness" company is slow and causing confusion.

I have been working at Philips Consumer Lifestyle

    Pros

The people who work there are great and tend to be down to earth outside of management. Most people have similar views about upper management so it's great to be able to have supporters

    Cons

Upper management is constantly changing, every week there is something new going on wihtin the company and we generally don't know what is going on. There are many processes that absolutely do not work but management is not willing to invest time or money into improvements. A lot of garbage being swept under the rug and we are definitely tripping over it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest that they try to reorganize their efforts in trying to compete in the global markets. Having great marketing is not enough we need solid internal operations technique if we are going to deliver on promises that we make to consumers and our accounts.
