Advice to Senior Management
Empower some risk takers.
Pros
Philips treats people fair and generally a good company to work.
Cons
Local leadership is week and lack clear direction
Advice to Senior Management
Lead with bold initiativies
Pros
Nice new office;
Very nice people;
Ok discount for some lines of products (not electronics);
Flexibel workspace and hours;
Cons
Promotions and job advancement is limited to those pleasing the right people;
Constant changes in management and strategy that never seem to deliver desired results;
Location of office in Sao Paulo ;
New office (without fixed desk) does not have enough space for everyone, so there are days that you get there and there is no where for you to sit;
A lot of dead (and expensive) wood that does not get the right treatment, which takes motivation from those working hard;
Dutch incompetent employees are "untouchable", even though their work needs to be redone by others;
HR is not trusted by employees and does not care about it.
Health plan keeps getting worse and worse to save costs.
Feeling that the boat is sinking and no one at the helm to stir it to the right direction and save the ship;
Advice to Senior Management
1) Get hid of dead wood and "untouchable" employees that are incompetent, you are taking away the little motivation that is left.
2) Look after your talent, they are looking elsewhere more than ever without opportunities within (and you are already bad mouthed in the market);
3) Make a plan and stick to it!
Pros
Open and transparent communication
Great colleagues
Cons
Organizational changes are made too frequently without true understanding of why previous changes did not work.
Advice to Senior Management
Change is good but understanding the true reasons why some changes did not work out is also very useful for future changes to be successful.
Pros
Smart people, nice environment, flexibility. I really enjoyed my team, but there's opinions that clash and some major egos. Everyone believes in what they do.
Cons
No sepeation between work and life, high stress, unclear direction, and massive egos. People in upper management will not stand behind their promises.
Advice to Senior Management
Plan ahead better, because you need to know what you want if you want to get quality work. There are some people in positions that truly don't pull their weight, and you need to move them, or just stop giving them more chances, because it's not fair to those that work with them.
Pros
Pleasent place to work, good salary. Work with a team of dedicated intelligent people striving to achieve profitable results for the company.
Cons
Management reviews uncontested. Dutch leadership takes priority. Patent applications subject to peer review. No flex time for summer time. Publishing a key requirement for advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Reques management review by staff. Enable flex time for top rated staff. Offer profit incentives for obtaining key patents for company.
Pros
Many opportunities in learning new technologies and processes.
Good people and management team.
Provide good mentoring for career development and advancement.
Cons
Compensation was nominal vs industrial.
Advice to Senior Management
Besides the technologies and career development to experience staff , management team has to ensure top talent are retained with leading compensation.
Pros
excerinece pay (over pay). particular contractor without any experience to the medical field is 60 dollars per hours and overtime one and half through the agency (Adecco, Qlogic, ACT..etc) and also not not requires have dead line, and it's a long term contract. Philips medical systems in Andover Massachusetts, It's have most budget funding o spend, because it's R&D
Cons
Medical device (Cardiac defibrillator, Ultra sound imaging) is a dead end job. it's good for retirement people. or un-challenge people to past times
Advice to Senior Management
political environment, A lot of the quarter centure (25 years) employees, not producible and, Philips medical systems R&D head quarter in Andover Massachusetts is retirement (country club) for old employees when the laid off come always laid off the younger one
Pros
Large company, big mandate. Nice combination of technology & FMCG. Good bosses, decentralized decision making. Company at the cusp of a big change.
Cons
Slow, bureaucratic. Too much of the old guard still around. Way too Euro-centric still. Not cost effective. Some shortsightedness on performance metrics.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to be stronger with some decisions. Need to be more concerned about costs. Need to removed some functional redundancies in the org structure.
