I worked at Philips Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice company, good group of people. People are motivated to bring the world to a better place. World wide locations, lots of different cultures. Ability to work on many interesting things.

    Cons

North America is often looked at as a step-sister/brother. Harder to get your voice heard if you don't have a good connection to The Netherlands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's great opportunity in the USA. Consider putting some marketing money towards it. Also, the same methods used in the Netherlands to get sales doesn't work everywhere. Also remember that broader views on different cultures would be welcome.

    Pros

Strong leadership, dynamic environment, opportunities for responsibilty

    Cons

Sometimes hierarchical structures can slow down innovative ideas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve filter down of information regarding corporate changes - they are happening for the right reasons for the future of the company though sometimes why is not well communicated.

I worked at Philips Electronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

After forming a new division at a Connecticut location, a new team was formed to drive the Consumer Electronics business. More than 50+ business professionals worked tirelessly at establishing a real sense of teamwork.

    Cons

Philips decided to sell off the entire division near the end of the recent recession, despite the fact that the US team was starting to turn the business around

I worked at Philips Electronics full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The compensation, benefits, and work-life balance aspects were good. It's a global company with many resources and experts. The people are dedicated and engaged. There was opportunity to grow within the department.

    Cons

The company did not have a strong vision or strategy. With a single business unit, there were 2 relocations (meaning 3 different locations) over the course of only 6 years, and then the business was closed down completely. It's an indication of how the company focused on the wrong thing, i.e. cost-cutting efforts versus addressing the weakness in the core business.

The company also did not have a strong process in place to identify additional opportunities outside of the immediate department for their top talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more proactive in retaining top talent and offering growth opportunities. Focus more on long-term strategy that is sustainable.
