I worked at Philips Healthcare full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAs a big company, it provides many resources such as training and library access to many books. It is a leader in certain medical fields.

ConsThere are too many older employees who have been working for the company for over 20 years or even more. This is actually not good for a company because new comer's opinion is often not heard by the management team and new ideas and fresh thoughts are suppressed by those older employees because they never heard about it. They are usually afraid of any changes in the existing technologies because they worry about not knowing the new stuffs. Those older employees are obstacles to innovation and they can go nowhere if they get laid off. So for innovative young people, it is not a good place to work. Also the company's culture is very bureaucratic and there are too many politics.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlways listen to different opinions, value the opinions from new/fresh comers from other company/industry rather than from old employees in the company.

Great place to start career!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Philips Healthcare

ProsGood benefits and fair pay. I have learned so much and have moved up the through the ranks accordingly.

ConsThe service sales organization is very micromanaged. This makes it difficult to think outside of the box. Service marketing needs to be completely overhauled as they have proven absolutely useless as healthcare changes. Too many silos. Not enough cross functional training.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet some new sales VPs in service. The approval process is too complicated in this changing healthcare environment and the current situation offers no flexibility in this changing marketplace.

Intelligent, professional people in a very politicized, contentious environment.

Software Engineer (Former Employee)
Seattle, WA

I worked at Philips Healthcare full-time for more than 5 years

ProsPhilips Resuscitation (Heartstream, originally) are a group of some of the finest research and clinically minded developers with whom I have worked. Strong benefits and good compensation package.

ConsAs part of Philips global companies, and by the inclination of a number of managers project and business management is aggressively and uselessly competitive, to the detriment of products and schedules. Decisions are arbitrary and often focused on sabotage of competitive projects, or cover-up of poor decision making. Good people are RIFed to cover bad managers, with the explicit support of HR.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management needs to gain better insight to the project management and use HR to weed bad managers.

Great company to start a career.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Philips Healthcare full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGenerally great people to work with and great place to start off a career. Has very innovative and great cutting-edge technology.

ConsIt has all the challenges that many big companies face: lots of approvals required for simple changes, lots of duplicate work being done... Also, the company could do a better job of promoting its products better as I hardly see any commercials or advertisements.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of all the hurdles to getting things done for the customer.

I've worked for Philips Healthcare for 18 months and it's a great job!

Engineer (Current Employee)

I have been working at Philips Healthcare full-time for more than a year

ProsPay - benefits are really good. Challenging work.

ConsTravel can get old at times - not the right job for anyone with young children at home.

Advice to Senior ManagementReward the branches of the organization that are blazing trails and creating profits. Trim the fat from the branches of the organization whose day has came and gone.
