    Pros

    Work with cross-functional teams (marketing, sales, supply chain, manufacturing, and other engineers) to meet project objectives. Great competitive benefits and vacation days.

    Cons

    Internal growth opportunities need to be improved. Middle management need to better define project requirements and have a better way of capturing progress toward those goals.

    Advice to Management

    Short-term project goals needed to be better captured by mid- and long-term goals other than only at SMART reviews, which are done annually. Monthly if not weekly meetings are needed to provide goal-tracking progress.

    Pros

    The technology was great. Good pay and benefits. Fellow FSE's were great to work with.

    Cons

    Management claims to be concerned about employees, but it's all lies. Forcing flex-time and 24/7 on employees or else threats of dismissal.

    Advice to Management

    Management is full of liars. When we were laid-off in November of 2012 we were told we were eligible for rehire. Many of us have applied for posted positions we were already well trained and experienced on only to be told they were looking for more qualified candidates. It turns out they hired younger people at half the salary we were paid.

    Pros

    Genuinely cares about their customers and employees. Very competitive pay and incentives. Promotes life/work balance.

    Cons

    Large company which can be somewhat difficult to maneuver at times.

    Advice to Management

    Don't lose focus of the small issues which can become large issues.

    Pros

    Global, Innovative technologies, Sustainability focus, Digital communication focus. Recognizable brand, dedicated employees

    Cons

    poor leadership, poor internal communication, little upward growth, individual contribution, no team atmosphere, annual review process is outdated and just a "must-do" to appease the HR and leadership team, corporate decision making is slow and cumbersome, organizational changes every 12-18 months.

    Advice to Management

    listen to your employees needs, constructive criticism and what the customers are saying about Philips, its employees, solutions and processes - then try to make things better at the base level before trying to move own position or save yourselves from criticism. Be an advocate and champion of your people first. Allow outside ideas and skills to better the organization rather than shut those positives out.

    Pros

    Good people in the field ranks and marketing teams.
    Great benefits
    Great team environment with field employees

    Cons

    Will change strategy over night
    Promotions are limited to those "in the club"
    Very weak middle and upper management
    Like the "yes" mentality, leaders are weak and don't like to be challenged
    Lots of middle management overhead not needed and fighting to protect their job, not their employees
    Many manufacturing shut downs across multiple product lines have hurt business.

    Advice to Management

    Get your head out of your rear end, the market is moving right past you in healthcare. Don't just promote someone because they fit your cultural mold or they are someone you like. Be willing to take a chance and empower your employees to make good decisions.

    Pros

    Philips is a great cooperation to work for. Executive leadership is driven and inspiring. Good internal career development program, complete with online classes and traditional classroom training. Low turnover.

    Cons

    Classic with big corporations, changes can be slow or hard to coordinate. Projects are often unrealistically pushed by marketing targets. Career advancements often offer small pay increases.

    Pros

    Great benefits. Some innovative products that lead their markets. Does a good job informing employees of corporate changes (business portfolio now has majority focused on healthcare).

    Cons

    Charge too much for those products that have no differentiation from competition; therefore, market-share will suffer. Limited opportunities for growth.

    Advice to Management

    Allow employees to leverage their past experiences at Philips, rather than micromanaging them into antiquated processes.
