Pros
good company, good people, challenging work and good benifits
Cons
too many org changes in philips recently
Advice to Senior Management
too many organizational changes.
Pros
Great pay
Exciting technologies
Good marketing
Good environment
Good workculture.
The pay is significantly higher than most other entry level jobs
Cons
Interdependability high and growth low
Pros
Philips has an excellent benefits package, certainly better than a comparably sized global company that I worked with previously. Overall, I think Philips makes good products and is an average place to work, in terms of advancement, recognition and career aspirations. I'm so frustrated working here that I'm struggling to find many "Pros".
Cons
I have never worked for a more dysfunctional organization in my career. Senior management routinely make poor strategic decisions and leave the rank and file to try and make the most of it. The "high potential" program cuts both ways - if you aren't a designated HYPO, you are going nowhere and those that do get designated, get a lot of responsibility thrown at them with little or no support from management. The basic philosophy is to only invest the bare minimum in the business and hope for the absolute best results.
Advice to Senior Management
Company morale is bad for a reason. Wake up!! Look around and realize that the company culture is primarily created by senior management.
Pros
People I work with great people. Innovatoin, I have the ability to innovate projects, ideas and candidates. I love that I work for a company that is changing peoples lives everyday. I have many opportunities for growth. I live close to the office and have flexibility with work life balance. I love that Philips is a global organizaiton. I have the opportunity to work in cross collaboration with global partners.
Cons
Technology for employees limits capabilities and sometimes the ability to move at lightning speed.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep accelerating everyone has to be on the same page to make this work.
Pros
An opportunity to improve on experience to advance.
Cons
Not enough support from hiring managers when conducting the recruiting process. There is a disconnect between Senior Managers and front-line Managers about the recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of new employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Strategically invest in Human Capital to insure continuity of leadership within the ranks of front-line managers and promote from within in order to improve loyalty.
Pros
Fairly up-to-date with policies to address work-life balance (for example, working from home when needed) "Talking the talk"
Looks good on a resume.
Cons
Most employees in my office feel uncomfortable using those work-life policies. There is the perception that management frowns upon working from home. Not "walking the talk".
Substantial glass ceiling for women in certain business units and geographic regions.
Advice to Senior Management
Show appreciation for and recognition of employees.
Pros
Benefits were decent but pay was on the lower end.
Cons
In my division, my manager what not managerially competent.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall Sr. Mgmt seemed to be okay when I was there.
Pros
One of the better paying jobs in the area.
Cons
Information does not flow well from the top to the bottom.
Advice to Senior Management
Open lines of communication and share profits.
Pros
Salary is fair, considering the area. Vacation and benefits package are fairly decent.
Cons
While some managers have "management" training, some others can't supervise or lead a blind man throuogh a dark room
Advice to Senior Management
Get the managers some additional training in how to lead before (or at least immediately following) a promotion to supervisory capacity.
Pros
you get a free electric toothbrush.
401K plan with matching
They buy out companies to drive up the stock.
To quote one of the Senior CEO as he walked out of our office door, "Keep our stock holders happy!" I guess that's how he say thank you, good job or good bye.
Cons
They make promises they can't keep.
They closed down Lightolier's Fontana factory, which is the only one that's actually making money.
But lets "Keep our stock holders happy!" cuz the workers seem to be nothing to them.
They like to keep incompetent managers and layoff all the ones who actually do their job and done it well.
401K plan has a very long 100% vesting period
Advice to Senior Management
You need closer relationship with your peons. At least not treat us like slaves.
There was only one manager that was decent and now he's passed away.
The good rises up to heaven and the bad apples are still rotting on earth.
