    Pros

    Nurturing environment. Beautiful new hospital.

    Cons

Not competitive salaries. Health insurance not great. Managers lack leadership and knowledge, some have been in their positions for decades and belong to the old school.

    Advice to Management

Go back to school, read, get updates, be curious, listen to your employees: they know much more than what you think.

Beautiful small hospital that focuses on children only

    Cons

Lack of and visibility of leadership, no structure, policies not followed, imbalance of salaries, administrative satelite offices are old and horrible to work in, location, lack of parking, lack of qualified staff.

    Advice to Management

Set and manage expectations properly, adhere to policies, make pay equitable to all workers.

    Pros

I am an RN at this hospital. I see very interesting patients with rare diseases and disorders, and learn something new every day. I see PCH accepting many charity cases. No discrimination of care based on insurance status. Great trauma team. Many opportunities for learning. Generous tuition reimbursement program. Organized program for teaching new grad nurses. Staff really care about the patients, from physicians to housekeepers.

    Cons

Lower pay than average for experience. Health insurance plan is not great. No rewards for certifications or degrees acquired. Constantly short-staffed with safety concerns. High turnover in some areas. Upper level management is not visible on a regular basis and not approachable by staff.

    Advice to Management

Be more visible. Visit the floors on a regular basis and seek input from the staff that work there. Create incentives to retain staff, especially nurses.

    Pros

Admire the work that everyone at this facility does for the community and children. Great place to begin your career.

    Cons

Financial dependence on AHCCCS and always receiving pressure to reduce contracted rates with commercial and private payors leaves employees to do more with less. CEO does not embrace a transparent culture and Senior Management is left with having to triage employee concerns at every turn.

    Pros

Love the atmosphere created for the kids! Very family oriented. Wonderful missions and values with exceptionally caring staff. Enjoy my co-workers immensely.

    Cons

The staffing issues are frustrating and never ending. Every shift is fast paced and tiring enought with extra staff shortages thrown into the mix leading to intense burnout and staffing dissatisfaction. Help is always promised and never materializes. Changes for improvemnt take exceedingly long to be implemented.

    Advice to Management

    Adequately staff.

    Pros

There are a lot of people within the hospital that are trying to do the right thing, trying to make a difference, and trying to make the hospital a better place for patients and employees alike. PCH is a teaching hospital and it seems that they are more recently investing into the education of their nursing staff, offering classes for advancement in training and care, and encouraging nurses to advance their education with education stipend incentives.

    Cons

It seems that a lot of the medical, mostly bedside staff, are not satisfied with their jobs and appear frequently frustrated. The hospital also seems to struggle with staffing issues, the hospital is frequently short nurses and PCT's but does not offer an incentive to work extra like many other hospitals.

    Advice to Management

Offering incentives to work overtime when the hospital is short nursing staff or when the census is higher than anticipated would be a great way to let the employees know that they are valued and appreciated for giving more than their required time at the hospital.

    Pros

I love the patient population that I work with, and I think that the majority of the nurses on my floor are great. We work our tails off, but we have fun doing it.

    Cons

Lack of support staff, benefits and compensation leave something to be desired.
