I have been working at Phoenix Contact full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy-going atmosphere from the president on down. Co-workers are pleasant, and friendlier than at any company I've ever worked for in the past. The owner has set a goal to be one of the best places to work in the world, and evidence of that is all around, from the employee fitness center, to the ergonomic workstations.

    Cons

German parent company uses different systems, and expects same results from US operations, with the same ease and speed achieved in Germany. This is definitely not the case and friction between cultures arises occasionally.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to forget the benefits of a small company. Piling procedures on top of procedures is taking away the friendly atmosphere, and sterilizing it by creating a lot of "it's not my job" type responses.

Nice employer I would rather suggest joining the team. A good start for fresh graduates.

I worked at Phoenix Contact full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You can get continous trainings, renewel, and a good working athmosphere. Sometimes your duties are improved and small changes may occur, continous development in business tools and systems are defenete.

    Cons

If you are a non-engineer you have no chance to get further in your career. management sometimes forgets to appreciate hard working and brilliant projects. Some of HQ support departments are very passive in general and not willing to participate in reaching the common company goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management should listen and hear others then sales department, a balance should be realized between sales and office clerk. Development of office clerk is just as much important as sales and marketing.
In subsidiaries there is no career opportunity, so if you want to get further in your career, sadly you have to quit.

Good marketing company, not a real automation systems player.

I worked at Phoenix Contact full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good basic products with reasonable quality. Lot's of traveling and late dinners with management. Minimum 2-4 international trips per year to German HQ. International sales and Marketing manage subsidiary from HQ. Many managers and meetings to review your work. Heavy budgeting process with direct HQ involvement. Politics are heavy and everyone is questioning your work. Heavily controlled by auditors from Canada and Germany. Constantly being audited therefore managers and employees are controlled on everything.

    Cons

Managers could be more qualified. Significant favoritism and excessive work hours. Worked 40 to 100 hours per week regularly. HR department was weak and unfair. Totally controlled by General Manager to a micro level. Little room for creativity and Automation System development. Limited technical group of employees. They are great at component sales but under perform with automation systems. Here the product is limited and the software is unstable. To much focus on marketing and not the customer experience. Much time is invested into marketing the company a "great place to work". Senior managers could be more transparent. Have not been growing for years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead the company from Canada. Be honest and transparent. Support a better work life balance. Incentives and pay are low for high performers. Stop changing the incentive packages to support the company during an agreement. Be more credible and fair with your decisions. Do not talk behind employees back when they are not present. Hire better qualified people and reward your real hard workers.

A good place to work short-term but very little room for professional growth and promotion

I have been working at Phoenix Contact

    Pros

The environment is relaxed, communication from upper management is fairly good and the benefits are reasonable.

    Cons

Anyone with career ambitions who is not an engineer may get frustrated here. There is little room for advancement, growth or promotions in the non-engineer positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When recognizing employees for a job well done, make sure you include all of the employees that worked on the project. And make sure you're giving credit to the right people.

I have been working at Phoenix Contact

    Pros

Reasonable demands of field sales, but rewards for success are there. Great regional and sales manager. President is very hands on and competent. Good with vacation days and personal days.

    Cons

Some what limited options for promotion since it is a small company. Harrisburg is not the best city to relocate to, but the office is nice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing. Company has great reputation in the industry and the people are well respected. Great place to work.
