Former Employee – worked at Phoenix Technologies full-time for more than a year
Pros – Good location, good people, good benefits. I really enjoyed working with most of the folks there. Of course there were the few that were difficult, but overall it was a good exp.
Cons – Executive mgmt was gutted by hostile take over of the BOD. When I was there it was during a hostile take over of the board of directors. With in days/weeks all of C level execs were gutted and the company went through a huge layoff.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the good work

Former Employee – worked at Phoenix Technologies full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – People can fully enjoy life during working, like in a retirement house. Benefits were not too bad as well.
Cons – Too relax type of management and culture, you never need to be working hard, and to have any sense of urgency and accountability working there. This directly resulted in losing bussiness and lost in the industry.
Note my review for the company was for 10 years ago and my last year of employment was 2003 (following drop down list doesn't have that choice).

Current Employee – been working at Phoenix Technologies
Pros – Peers were kind, and supportive, and in the earlier days the benefits were somewhat decent and was actually a pleasant place to work.
Cons – Complete and total lack of direction and guidance, with management finger pointing and placing blame on subordinates just as scape goats.
Advice to Senior Management – The company direction need to be innovative technologically, not just trying to vy for sweatshop wage services provided to customers.

Former Employee – worked at Phoenix Technologies
Pros – Phoenix offers interesting projects and work if you like PCs and Linux internals. The other engineers are hard working and knowledgeable.
Cons – Management does not have a clue what they want to do, or how long it will take. If you tell them honestly, they tell you to do it faster. But it does not matter, because once a project starts, the priorities change and you get assigned to another project. The company hires freely, but fires and lays-off folks just as freely. Don't accept a job here, you will be sorry.
Advice to Senior Management – Leave before you run the company totally into the ground. The company has a long proud history, you should not be part of it!

Current Employee – been working at Phoenix Technologies
Pros – The troops are smart and very hardworking
Cons – The exec management is autocratic, all decisions are top down, there is no concept of bottom up.
Advice to Senior Management – Mkae this a scalable organization by having people work their best. Make is a place where people work collaboratively - as opposed to doing backbiting all the time.

Former Employee – worked at Phoenix Technologies
Pros – Nice people and locale in sunny California.
Cons – Revolving Door of Upper Managers resulting in a Leadership vacuum.
Advice to Senior Management – Try sticking to a plan for more than 12 months before consulting the magic 8-ball again. Sell your plan to the employees and provide a real opportunity for constructive feedback. Stop thrashing back and forth between the core business and new ventures.

Current Employee – been working at Phoenix Technologies
Pros – They get a lot of work, have a lot of jobs and it is very easy to get a job at phoenix.
Cons – Management plays favorite, pay scale is below average for industry and training is limited. No respect for your personal life. Lots and lots of turnover. Training program is a joke
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to what your hands in the field have to say once in a while. Help them be the best they can be. Do not run them into the ground with no days off
