Not a bad place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsMost of the people were friendly and professional to deal with but the last few years has seen a large turnover in staff and management.

ConsDownsizing has caused larger workloads for the remaining personnel

Advice to Senior ManagementPay closer attention to the skill sets your employees bring to the table and learn to use that instead of forcing people to learn new jobs that they may not be qualified for.

Company looks hard at new opportunities.

ConsIn a tough, commodity market with overcapacity. Foreign competition is tough.

You want me to do ALL that for how much?

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsAverage work environment. It's a job, though not a great one, that does offer most benefits, though they are very basic and expensive. For some, favoritism. Unfortunately I'm not one of them or their clicks. Half of the manufacturing personnel are very experienced, but only the "favorites" are appreciated by management. 24/7 operation offers a few different work options, though none of them make sense unless you work M-F 9-5. Lower level employees tend to support one another.

ConsVery narrow industry. Advancement opportunities for individuals are limited -- opportunities to promote from within opposed to hiring from the outside on a continuous basis. This specific market is not growing in the future. Low/non-competitive compensation & basic benefits package that includes VERY EXPENSIVE and terrible health insurance coverage and horrible 401K program. Lack of basic respect and fairness for lower level employees creates low employee morale in these areas. Layoffs created inadequate manpower along with pay cuts more than 5 years ago and there has been NO PAY RAISES, and very small and few bonuses, for manufacturing employees since that time. Favoritism over competence. Lack of equipment maintenance. Unapproachable senior managers, particularly in HR.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore manufacturing personnel. Pay raises for manufacturing personnel. Improve equipment maintenance. Better, cheaper health insurance. Better 401K program. Flexible schedules. Promote within -- there are many well educated, highly intelligent, experienced long-term lower level employees answering to new hires with less knowledge, less skill and less experience.

Poor management is driving Photronics into the ground

    (Current Employee) Boise, ID

ProsIt's a job, but not a very good one.

ConsPoor communication between management and staff; favoritism; lack of competence of middle managers; no career ladder; poorly-defined policies; lack of basic respect and fairness for staff; low employee morale. Recent staff layoffs were done without a plan for how work shifts would be covered by existing staff; a week later company announced 10% pay cut and suspension of contributions to 401K plan. What's next?

Advice to Senior ManagementTrain middle managers on managing people; look at the skills of the staff you have and encourage their growth and development -- you are missing out on great opportunities for people to contribute to the company. Do not allow favoritism to take precedence over competence.

excellent stop to help broaden the resume, but perhaps not a permanent one

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosbenefits package, work and life balance, flat management

Consadvancement opportunties are limited dur to flat organization, delegation of authority is challenging,

Advice to Senior Managementlook for opportunities to promote from within the rank and file as opposed to brining in new talent on a continuous basis

Even when company makes profit, zero bonus given....sad

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsNormal hours 8.30 - 5.30, 5 day week with internet access.

ConsTend to overspend on Sales costs rather than equip maintenance. Inadequate manpower for maintenance support. Single tool environment in a few critical areas thus when tool down we are in trouble

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in tools upgrading, hire more personnel for equipment & equip maintenance

    You can do better...

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsVery experienced workforce, none of whom are particularly appreciated by the managers. 24/7 operation offers flexible work options. Employees tend to supoort one another, although there are plenty of "clicks".

ConsThe company wants worker bees: do what you're told, when you're told to do it and don't ask questions. Non-competitive salaries. Terrible 401K program. Unapproachable senior managers, particularly in HR.

Advice to Senior ManagementDeno and the dedicated employees are the only reason this company is still afloat. When Deno leaves, watch the senior managers strap on their golden parachutes and jump.
