I worked at Pikeville Medical Center part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Co-Workers (not administrators) are the best and family like

    Cons

Lowest paid hospital in the state of Ky, No respect from management, write ups for time over a break/lunch and time under a break/lunch. Management uses constant fear tactics about losing your job. Administrators with nothing more then a GED in education. Extremely high cafeteria prices, like $1.25 per banana high. Creative scheduling,, (you may work 13 hours a day, but have to leave early on your last day so you don't get overtime. Never ending pounding about how they are the best hospital in the nation, every single day, they claim to hang with John Hopkins, and the Mayo Clinic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take hospital administration classes,

I have been working at Pikeville Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Health insurance is very low cost for families, and free for individuals. Many services offered that benefit the community.

    Cons

Administration has no concern for employees and manages through fear and intimidation.

No cost of living pay increase in over 5 years (administration will tout that quarterly bonuses are given - however, they are small and are not included in the retirement or OT structure).

    Unethical -
*Administration and Board member's family are hired on the spot and quickly given promotions and raises.
*"Outside Counsel" has huge input into the daily functions of the facility.

Micromanagement is rampant here. They don't trust the managers, directors, or even the VPs to make decisions. Nothing is accomplished until it is signed off by the COO.

Poor communication between administration and staff. Yes, they have an employee forum each quarter that gives an overview of performance. As an example, many employees were sent for facilitator training to assist the community with enrolling in the new health insurance exchange; no one told the managers this help was available.

High level employees disappear. One day they are here, the next day gone. Recently, 2 VPs lasted all of 2-3 weeks.

If you are not from "here" you will be treated with distrust and contempt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire middle mangers you trust to do their job, and let them.
Give these poor people a raise.

I worked at Pikeville Medical Center full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They offer certificates for some holidays. Your co-workers are really like family. They will work with your schedule for school.

    Cons

They are very unethical and full of contempt for their employees. They don't appreciate the talent that they have working for them and are concerned with appearances only. They consistently pump everyone with the 'we're number one' attitudes but yet will not listen to their employees or consider their opinions. If you want to be valued and appreciated for your work, this is not the company for you. There are no raises. Pay is not that great. If you are hired for PRN work, you will not be respected or treated with the same regard as others who work full-time. You will be expected to work the same amount of hours as full-time employees, less pay, no insurance, and you will not be included in company events; i.e you will be treated like you are not a real employee.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should be concerned about how employees are being treated both professionally and ethically. If you wanted talented people to stay with you, you would focus on employee satisfaction instead of worrying about how you are perceived throughout the community. Happy employees who love their job will reflect the face of their employer. Many of your employees feel treadled on and become jaded because of a lack of any acknowledgement by management unless its negative. Also your mission and vision statement mean nothing if no one uses it as a guide to ethical behavior. You have lost your sight.

    Cons

Low pay and no raises. They are very unethical and hateful towards people outside of their community. Sacrifices integrity for looking good.

I worked at Pikeville Medical Center

    Pros

The fact they give gift certificates for the holidays and they give gifts out. Some of the people are nice

    Cons

The pay isnt as good as you would think, there are too many cliques, and they dont care about anything but being number 1

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more appreciative and thankful for your workers and have a better understanding of problems that your staff can have at home and be gratful for the ones that really want to work.

I worked at Pikeville Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great health insurance at a very reasonable price, especially for the family plan. Same price regardless of how many children are on the plan.

    Cons

There is little job security. Many managers (middle and senior) are rotated through the positions within 10-18 months. Education and achievement are not recognized and there is no raise based on cost of living or merit. Overall moral is poor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Poor moral leads to a drain of great talent. Your employees see what is happening and don't feel appreciated. Be genuine and transparent with your actions.
