It was an OK experience; nothing to pursue long-term with the current management.

I have been working at Pilot Flying J full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The Wendy's side has a competitive wage and is constant moving, the vast majority of the crew is great to work with and many of the managers are a pleasure to work with.

    Cons

It can be stressful dealing with truckers and customers. The crew is either great or intolerable. The higher managers will promise you the world, and return very little.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow through, follow through, follow through. This will generate trust from the employees to you and create a better job environment for all.

    Decent place to work

I have been working at Pilot Flying J full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I was able to move up quickly and tend to get along with most customers.

    Cons

There is a lot of favoritism and some people are just rude. The truck drivers and lack of protection we have against them is a little unsettling. Not too mention they like to cut hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop cutting hours and show less favoritism with certain employees.

    Pros

Pay is nice, around $35,000 for CoManager, store manager $50 plus. You can run a store if your coming from outside the company. Bonus were nice if Haslam isn't spending them on paying off trucking companies.

    Cons

Long hours and odd hours too. Skeleton staff and you will end up doing everything and every job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some better quality of life for workers and management.

Jim Haslam needs to be an undercover boss.

I have been working at Pilot Flying J full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, good for younger people looking for experience in retail and customer service.

    Cons

Training is often poor. Working under several General Managers during my years with the company, it is apparent they do not care about their employees. Constant changes in work hours and days off does not allow for a good quality of life for employees. Reprimanding employees in front of coworkers and customers is common practice. Many double standards exist, some have to have 24/7 availabilty while others are allowed to set their own schedules. Favoritism abounds while others are forced to work less desirable hours, days and with poor staffing. 12 hour shifts and working all shifts in the same week are a general practice. Raises are few and far between most working at minimum wage. According to this site I am underpaid by almost $20,000. Hard work is seldom appreciated, acknowledged or rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training needs to be enhanced and extended. General Managers need to be more hands on and spend less time sitting in the office. Regular work schedules and days off need to be implemented for all positions. Ful time employees need 40 hours a week, not 42 hours one week and 35 the next.

I honestly believe Mr. Haslam needs to be an undercover boss. I can not believe that the CEO of any company would be proud of the way employees are treated or the poor quality of work/family balance that exists for the people who maintain the quality of service the customers receive.
