Former Employee – worked at Pimco full-time for more than a year
Pros – PIMCO will take care of you if you can put in the hard work and long hours. They are the best of the best and this is reflected in their expectations.
Cons – Inter-team dependencies and inefficient means of communication can cause projects to have insufficient time and resources. Long hours and lots of stress, not sure if Newport Beach is worth it.
Advice to Senior Management – There are very talented people at PIMCO. Let them use their expertise to build great things.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Pimco full-time
Pros – Some of the nicest, most genuine people you will ever meet. Employees really do go out of their way to teach and help you with problems you encounter while on the job.
Cons – Lean organization leads to an additional workload. If you're not looking for a fast-paced environment, PIMCO is not the place for you. I think a lot of employees tried to put on their "work face" and look like they loved working at PIMCO when the opposite may very well have been true if you talked candidly with anyone.

Current Employee – been working at Pimco full-time for less than a year
Pros – nothing comes to my mind, except great starbucks coffee machine
Cons – so many of them, almost all the bad things said in other reviews are true. the whole company rips advantage of name and fame PIMCO total return fund. this $280B behmoth if some day vanishes the whole company will come crashing down.
Advice to Senior Management – zero people and project/business management skills, need to learn real management to run company more effectively. just hiring full time mba's from target school is not enough, neither hiring desirable ex-goldman sachs employees.

Former Employee – worked at Pimco as an intern
Pros – Recently recruited for PIMCO and I'll say:
They're very smart people, they pay relatively well, they're very organized and you can't beat the Newport location
Cons – They say they want women and made a hard push on campus, however, they extended very few offers to women. They say they are open to career switchers but have a very limited view of what a career switcher is. They highly prize the ability to shmooze, so if you can get on the good side of the recruiter, then you're going to have a much easier time.
Advice to Senior Management – If you're worried about how your culture is being perceived, be more open to folks that don't take the traditional paths to get to you.

Current Employee – been working at Pimco full-time
Pros – Complete job stability. Great California weather.
Cons – PIMCO technology is engaged in a costly effort using 1990s technology to support 2013 trading volumes. Management has no or severely outdated technical skills which has lead to several negative trends becoming entrenched:
- developers are uniformly incorrectly incentivised on the speed in which work is completed, software quality is completely ignored
- your boss won't understand or be able to value your work so promotions are all done mafia style based on your perceived & demonstrated loyalty to your boss and your penchant for politics
- As technology fails to deliver on a project, an elaborate charade of pretending to do everything possible demands very long hours which management regards highly.
- Great software is written by great teams and no teams are functioning well at this place, while good employees plot their departures or remain disgruntled, those with outdated skills are the only ones who are not planning on going anywhere since they are so over-paid.
Advice to Senior Management – A new CTO joined in 2012 and was quickly swallowed in the quicksand. Any changes to the status quo will be met with a severe backlash; however, the constant demand for more "resources" and bigger budgets will only lead to more window dressing. A handful of good teams could deliver far more value than the currently bloated structure so focus on hiring a few managers with modern technical skills.

Pros – The benefits here are great
Cons – This place will suck your soul. Avoid at all costs unless you have an outer-exterior made of teflon

Current Employee – been working at Pimco as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Other than good location, can't think of anything
Cons – Administrative assistants are treated horribly!!!! They will play a game of "temp to perm" rather it should be called "temp until we fire" I left a full-time role for the administrative assistant position at PIMCO and I regret it every day. The team is run by a bunch of pompous human beings who only care about themselves. The pay is low (horrible for the amount of work that is expected of you). Make one mistake and you are OUT which is easy for them since you are a temporary employee anyway
Advice to Senior Management – New management is needed asap

Current Employee – been working at Pimco full-time for more than a year
Pros – Brand reputation great.
California is a decent location if you don't want the city life
Cons – No place to go afterward that has upward mobility.
This place really will suck your soul.
Very hierchical.
If you are in your 20s or early 30s, this is a horrible place to waste away your life. Don't be sucked in.
The money/comp isnt as great as they make it out to be, or what you would expect from a firm like PIMCO
Advice to Senior Management – Re-think your entire structure. The people at the top are amazing. But the hierarchy and the size have led to so many problems in the organization, that it has become a horrid place to work.
