A good company that takes care of you, but is very sedate with little chance of growth

I have been working at Pine River Capital Management (more than a year)

    Pros

Very transparently run, strong leadership at the top, strong focus on ethics

    Cons

The performance of PR is largely driven by a very few PMs. If you are not working directly with one of the main P&L drivers of the firm, things can get stale very quickly. I think this is endemic to many hedge funds; there are one or two people that generate the alpha, most everyone else is staff. If you are ambitious, then this is likely not a good place for you.

I worked at Pine River Capital Management

    Pros

    - Great perks and benefits: daily lunch stipend and excellent health benefits
    - Few among many, but there are a handful of amazing people who work here
    - Gives back to charities and local communities

    Cons

    - Poor management
    - No promotion within the company, very little career advancement
    - Declining ethical values and increasing company politics

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should invest in employee engagement and promote within. The culture has changed drastically in the last few years. The firm has become increasingly corporate and forgotten about their most important asset - their employees.

    Pros

There are some great people at this firm and if you are fortunate enough to get a good manager you'll probably be very happy.

    Cons

The compensation is substantially lower than other hedge funds and they do not promote from within.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value, promote, and compensate the people who do their jobs well.
