Pros
Good opportunity to earn sales experience and a potential to make decent cash during college in the summer months. This job is ideal if you're single; if nothing ties you down it allows you to work and live in various cities throughout the U.S. You make it what you want it to be.
Cons
Not an ideal job for balancing work and home life; I don't recommend for married couples. Everyone's wives complain how hard the job is on them including those of the managers and most guys couldn't care less- it's all about the money for them. You work when people are home typically from 12pm until sundown. This means that if you don't drive your own car like the managers do, you'll be left to the mercy of the neighborhood you are in- this could be hairy depending on what city you work in. Only one day per week off and no holidays off during the summer months.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest with the first year reps about what to expect. Don't sugar-coat everything and lead new guys to believe that they'll be making oodles of cash. Let them know it's tough work but can be worth it if they want it to be.
Pros
You get to see different areas of the country.
Cons
They have you move to these random locations to make it hard to get out of the job and just head home. They lock you into these contracts of work because they know once you have the opportunity to leave, you would take it. Promises to make a lot of money are just lies.
Advice to Senior Management
Quit lying to your employees like you are lying to your customers buying your alarms.
Pros
If you work with a good crew it can be a lot of fun. You work a lot of longs hours but when its with people you like the time flies by.
Cons
You can't always get the crew you want.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't nickle and dime the employees. Good, decent, hard working employees will bail on you very quickly because of it.
Pros
as long as you can get into a good office (luck of the draw), you can make some decent money. Traveling is fun if you enjoy that sort of thing (which I do). If you have a pulse, and no criminal record, you can get a job. (That's actually a con unless you can't find a job anywhere else).
Cons
Why do they constantly recruit as many employees as they can? So that they have enough people to forget about you if they happen not to need you. I was a lead technician for these guys, and they do not care about you. The company is run by guys in their 20's. Who gets respect in the company? The salesman who are most dishonest (because they make more sales, albeit dishonestly).
Advice to Senior Management
hire quality people, and treat them well. Stop overhiring, as it leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of those who just happen to get pushed to an unproductive office, and forgotten.
Pros
Nice facilities. Orem building has basketball court and theater room.
Cons
Lack of defined strategic vision and very poor cross-functional communication. Some individuals in leadership positions have limited professional experience which reflects in the inability to grow their own leaders and develop employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Know what is happening in your company. Do skip levels with employees. You may be surprised.
Pros
Income potential. Only work part of the year
Cons
Have to travel. No residual commissions
Advice to Senior Management
Offer residual if rep stays with company
Pros
Really brings out the work ethic in a person. There's an unlimited potential for personal growth in the company. If you surround yourself with successful people, you will be successful and make lots of money.
Cons
Work is grueling and difficult. Sometimes the office environment can be very negative and affect your sales.
Advice to Senior Management
Constantly check up on your reps. Make sure they are taken care of emotionally and physically and mentally.
Pros
Pinnacle offers amazing opportunities for individuals interested in performance based pay. The company is well rounded, growing, and intimately involved and interested in salespeople's growth.
Cons
The job itself can be grueling and burnout is inevitable. The primary source for making sales is via door-to-door sales, which makes for quick cash capabilities, but is in the long run unsustainable.
Advice to Senior Management
Just keep ahead of the market and stay in touch with the sales force. Management thus far has done a great job, I would just recommend that it maintains this habit.
Pros
Good money with a good product that you can believe in.
Cons
sometimes the standards used for promotions encourage dishonesty by rewarding those who do anything to make a sale (lie to, force, sleep with customers).
Advice to Senior Management
Find out who your Honest, good sales people are and promote them, not just the high sellers.
Pros
The pay is amazing. You can stay in shape with all the moving that you have to do. You get to meet new people and it never seems to get too boring.
Cons
Not enough support from management or the company. It feels like you are thrown to the wolves at first, and doesn't get much better; you just get better at coping with it.
Advice to Senior Management
Find a way to make the office feel more unified. To keep reps from feeling like they're been dropped in the middle of nowhere, mark on the map where the nearest bathroom is, and grocery store if they need something to eat. Don't make them feel worthless for taking a break to energize themselves for the rest of the evening.
