I worked at Pioneer Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Employed some of the best people I have ever worked with. Good opportunities to travel and the work / life balance was always great!

    Cons

The years of down sizing has taken a toll on employee moral and cost the company some great employees.

    Pros

Nice people, interesting technology at some points, got experience with big name customers that was helpful on resume, very organized processes that were always followed even to excess.

    Cons

Dying relevance, very low pay, constantly declining sales, less that coat of living increases year to year, micro managed, cheap (would not even pay for coffee to be used in coffee pot), imbalance in work for between groups.

    Pros

They are the most innovative company in the industry, with great array of talent. The product spoke for itself, and then add in quality sales staff, second to none.

    Cons

Many layoffs over the years made job descriptions challenging, but of course that is what makes a career interesting. Advancement opportunities were limited.

I have been working at Pioneer Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Well known company with lots of brand equity. Lots of resources for a sales person to work with. Good quality products and a continued commitment to product quality. Benefits are ok, although they have eroded substantially over the past few years.

    Cons

Upper management attitude is "what have you done for me lately". Some questionable decisions being made as the company struggles to hit unrealistic sales and market share goals dictated from Japanese upper management. Focus has gone away from customer satisfaction and support to market share at all costs. There is no consideration whatsoever for the long term. Everything is very short term oriented. Compensation is well below average as more and more cuts are made. Cuts (both in resources and personell are a constant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Regroup and look at reasonable goals and ways to achieve them that are not short sighted. Look at what's reasonable and set goals based on that. Re-focus on committing to customers other than the 800-lb gorillas that you can build a business model on going forward after the big guys dump you.

I worked at Pioneer Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There was a great team in place, where you could work independently on your own, but you had all of the back up and support that you would need.

    Cons

Everything was going great until they laid off over half the company in 2009. I don't know if they increased their profits, but the company now is a shell of what it once was.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees more about what will and won't sell. You might save yourself millions, instead of going ahead and spending money on making stuff that nobody will want, just because "management knows best".

I worked at Pioneer Electronics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits, flexible hours, reasonable pay

    Cons

Poor communication, recent global staff looks down on U.S. team. There is no required reviews, and has not been for the past five years, most employees just hang on until the next big layoff, never knowing where they stand.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start building a team environment, provide reviews, implement training, and provide positive feedback, and develope improvement plans, not passive aggressive actions.

    Pros

Great brand recognition. great products. Good benefits. Good peers to work with.

    Cons

Unrealistic sales expectations from upper management. Sales up in a very depressed market but no-one is hitting sales bonus goals. No appreciation from anyone. What have you done lately mentality. Very dishonest sales approach. Tell dealers one thing and then do something under the table that hurts them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Step back. Re-evaluate the future of the market and set goals accordingly. Acknowledge a job well done when appropriate. Stick to the ethical road when it comes to treatment of dealers.

    Pros

    Compensation, Benefits, & Flex Schedule

    Cons

Communication is very poor, there is a clear segregation of Japaneese Staff and American Staff. There is no team environment, silo structure exists. Many demands but no clear vision or planning in place. Work environment is within a warehouse no windows, lighting is very bad. Reviews are non existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrate staff, allow employees to contribute and listen to solutions being offered from all divisions. Provide employee reviews.
