    Old School vs moving forward

I have been working at Piper Aircraft

    Pros

    Dedicated employees
    Ability to speak one's mind
Opportunities to make yourself useful beyond your job description

    Cons

    Disconnect between departments
    Resistance to change
Not a monstrous parent company to dump lots of money into development

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leaders make change happen. They don't force it, but they also make it clear that it is inevitable. Otherwise, there is only leadership in name, no more than mere managers of the existing org. That's not going to grow a company or attract certain eager employees

  2.

I worked at Piper Aircraft as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Management is very friendly and will work with you on scheduling and compensation.

    Cons

Some cursing/swearing goes on in the office that's not frowned upon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had little experience with upper management so I have no advice for them, except that they are doing a great job.

  3.

    Not the best internship experience.

I worked at Piper Aircraft full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

While working as an intern at Piper, I didn't get to truly get immersed in the culture as I was only there a few short months but, I will say that it was a good opportunity for me personally.

    Cons

During my time at Piper, the "PiperJet" was the largest project for the engineering department. Unfortunately during my time there, this project was cancelled and the majority of my department was let go over the course of two months. My time spent there was little but it made me as a mechanical engineer realize how delicate the aircraft industry was so because of this experience, I haven't sought out this field since.

I have been working at Piper Aircraft full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

2013 Best Places to Work award for a reason. Company has many good characteristics and most people are good to work with.

    Cons

Ways of doing business are hoary with age. Company just cannot get modern. Long history of buddy-buddy relationships for promotion vs. merit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember who you work for: yourself should not be at the top of the list.
