    Unhelpful Internship

    Investment Banking Analyst (Former Employee)

Pros- Regular meal and cab expenses

Cons- A lot of admin work and no financial modeling
    - Pay is not consistent with ibanking internships; it is SALARIED not hourly so expect to work long hours without the right compensation
    - Rude culture; I was rarely called by my name
    - No real staffer to give you work; hence, you end up doing bits and pieces here and there for random people without completing a project/deal from start to finish
    - No mentorship to help you grow

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate an internship similar to that of other banks and you might retain some interns when you extend offers

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Frustrating

    Managing Director (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    ProsRemarkably enduring brand
Strong senior bankers dedicated to delivering for clients
Good cultural feel in individual industry groups

ConsPersistently and demonstrably poor and inexperienced leadership, with a bewildering sense of entitlement
Lack of client engagement and accountability on part of senior management
Absence of vision and passion to win at helm
Very siloed structure with disincentives to cross industry teams and work as one firm

Advice to Senior ManagementHave vision and exert leadership rather than reciting corporate platitudes as strategy.

ProsTalented individual contributors. A great place to learn without the rewards.

ConsInept management, lacks talent across the board.

Advice to Senior ManagementStay away from playing politics. Please compare yourself to your peers. Maybe you talked yourself in to a promotion. Ask yourself if you are really qualified for the job? If not, step aside.

ProsDecent i-banking in specific verticals (Consumer, MedTech)
    Less pressure than other i-banks

    ConsPoor management
Do not pay for performance, pay for a**kissing (how is this different than corporate America?)
Poor people management from hiring to evaluating to compensating
Only pay when confronted with competitive offers - a word to the wise: spend your time getting other job offers, not doing your job for Piper well

Advice to Senior ManagementStop paying $ to senior management for poor job
Evaluate and pay people for what they add to your bottom line
