    Great staff, crappy bosses

    Software Engineer (Former Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsA great group of people to work with and free soda and sugary products. The extended health package is pretty good and transit is paid for.

ConsThe management treat employees as disposable tools, and under value them. The compensation is well below standards and management has expectations of their staff that they themselves are not willing to live up to.

There is zero thought to career development at this company. You will get pigeon holed into a position until they have no further use for you, at which point they will try to rip you off and not pay your legally earned severance.

    Typical of small private developer

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Vancouver, BC (Canada)

ProsAppears to be on the rise
Games getting much more high profile
New level of management is organizing the company
    Great benefits packages and perks
Salaries are competitive if not the highest in the industry
Very open to hearing ideas from all staff
Lots of opportunity for future career growth

ConsStill some issues when it comes to processes being defined
Up to the individual employee to bring forward issues and solutions
Not a lot of information is filtered down from the owners which can leave employees feeling insecure

Advice to Senior ManagementTell your employees what plans you have for the future, whether good , bad or we don't know yet. Total lack of a message leaves the impression you don't care about how the company's situation affects your employees.

It's a good place to work, but it could be a lot better.

    Senior Programmer (Current Employee)
    Burnaby, BC (Canada)

ProsA relatively flat structure means lots of room to advance. Leads are promoted from within if they can do their jobs, and many employees have been in the company for a very long time (for this industry), ie, 5+ years.

ConsWorking on crappy product with the advantage of the wannabe-designer owner poking his fingers in adding things. Combined they can be pretty bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to design games or manage production when you can't do either. Hire a designer. Hire qualified production leads. Stop trying to do those things.
