Pros
Compensation, benefits, helpful and bright employees, team comradaree, work/life balance
Cons
Poor view of company strategy and future direction, low employee morale due to many layoffs, constant changes, poor internal and external communications of brand identity and business structure, declining mail volumes contributing to core business decline
Advice to Senior Management
Pitney has been GREAT to me in my career and overall, I have enjoyed my experiences to date and feel grateful for what I have been able to accomplish. However, I am concerned that the outlook for PItney is grim based on recent events and think management should provide employees with more communications about the company's strategic direction and vision.
Pros
They are always hiring (also a negative in the long term)
Decent benefits if you a full time employee (not temp/hourly/on call, etc.)
Cons
Unequal pay to work completed
Advancement in responsibilities, pay not increased respectively
Make promises that are "forgotten"
Very manipulative
No merit rewards permitted
Unreasonable work expected with excessive critical feedback
Technology/Software 5-15 years behind.
Advice to Senior Management
Be aware of superior "product" where there is no merits given to employees as likely has some abusive qualities.
Pros
Fortune 500, Good benefits, Good experience
Cons
Work is very hard for little pay, you will work more than 8 hours every day
Advice to Senior Management
Needs better support and better company enviroment.
Pros
famous name in business. small number of players in this industry.
Cons
the business model has changed completely. the need for most of the product line is gone due to a paperless business model.
Pros
Large corporation, good benefits, well known, in business for many years
Cons
Poor business strategy-political infighting-incompetence of senior management to integrate business units, invest in technology and technologists who can apply it
Advice to Senior Management
Put people in control who know the business, invest in technology, invest in people who know how to apply the technology
Pros
Name recognition is fair for entry level employees with no previous experience
Cons
This company burns through reps. I saw 15 changes in 19 positions just in the year I worked there. If you don't triple the sales you are out. simple as that.
Advice to Senior Management
retire, sell your stock, move to Iran...
Pros
They gave me this job during hard economic times....that's good. They made the position seem so promising, we have people come in to give massages, 401k w/company match, tuition reimbursement...they made it seem very promising.
Cons
If you need tuition reimbursement, good luck. You wait 6 months before you qualify. Your sup will refer you to HR who will give you a web site that will refer you back to your sup. 2 years later, I still haven't figured it out...but now dont plan on being here long enough to require it. I started with one department and now take on responsiblities for 8 different departments...but no promotion or pay increase. You will advance alright...but its only worth the paper you write it down on.
Time off. You get a lot of it to start, but if they decide the company 'wont make it without you' that day then you wont be approved for the time off. You can take a sick day, but be careful...you only get so many of course.
Now instead of just the background check and drug test you take when you start, they also want a credit check. Good thing they didnt need a credit check when I started. How do you build credit without a job? But here's the funny part...for whatever reason, they dont do the credit check until your in training for a couple weeks...then they walk you out the door.
I'm sure there is plenty of advancement opportunities, with the turn over rate being so high...someone has to fill in. But if they can get you to do something at $11 an hour that you neighbor does for $22 an hour ... they consider it a win.
My 5 year plan includes quitting this job within the next 6 months.
Advice to Senior Management
Make micro changes within the company to imrove your customer satisfaction before making macro changes outside the company resulting in customers adapting to the ever changing Pitney Bowes. Your systems are outdated (by about 20-30 years), your employees are unhappy and your customers are paying the price.
Pros
Good place to gain some school of hard knocks experience. Some great poeple within the company. you learn to do a lot with very little.
Cons
The company treats their clients and their staff very poorly.
Senior management does not listen to, or have any interest in the mid level management.
This compnay has forgotten that the clients are the number one focus and the sales people that work with them need to be supported.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people on the ground who are telling you why things are going wrong.
Pros
Large territory (could be a lot of rural)
Cons
Vehicle reimbursement is a joke, base pay minimum, comp structure subject to change EVERY 6 MONTHS, comp structure is TERRIBLE, incentives are a joke and unattainable. Paid about 1/3 of gas $$ back, 15 days after the month end. Also, any expenses are on your own. Submit an expense report and you may or may not get paid back, depending on how much you paid for dinner. Carpooling for travel to meetings mandatory or you don't get reimbursed. Constantly degraded and told how terrible your performance is, no matter what the circumstances. NO WORK/LIFE BALANCE.
Advice to Senior Management
WAKE UP! Pitney was a great place to work for 6 years ago. There are people within the organization that are making way too much money for doing NOTHING! Listen to your sales employees, we're on the front lines. Make a clear line between field/inside/retention sales, it's all gray now!
Pros
Relaxed work Environment: It is not too busy all the time. But at times it can make you loose your head.
Fellow workers are very collegial.
Cons
They are in mailing business. Mail and businnes for mail is dropping, so they are struggling.
Senior management is too greedy and incompetent. They take millions in bonuses while laying off jobs, cutting coffee, not paying for overtime, selling buildings, etc.
General sentiment in the company is, It is a Titanic it had its days. But now it is sinking and the greedy management just as the one on titanic wants to make the most before it goes down. They have no capacity to rescue it.
