    manager

Senior Director (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

Prosno good reasons any more because of below reasons:
    1. as a SoC company PW is strong in DSP algorithm. However it is not able to transfer them into competitive products because the company is weak at IC design and not able to deliver cost competitive solutions.

Consthe bread and butter business for PW is projector. This market is not growing and is threatened by large screen displays

    Advice to Senior Managementnone

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    A lot of challenging work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsSmart people. Challenging video technology.

Conspolitics. Not much recognition to normal hard-working engineers who are not good at fighting for themselves

Advice to Senior Managementtreasure your engineers, treat them better.

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Shanghai, Shanghai (China)

ConsToo much overtime to balance life. The business outlook is frail.

    Good Place to work

    Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsVery smart and talented young generation of engineers. Most all development is here is Shanghai.

ConsInexperienced engineers are promoted very quickly. Talent circulation in and out of the company is too quick in Shanghai. Engineers who do not perform and/or who are not interested float around the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is lot of potential for the company in the 3D tv market. Need to promote experienced and motivated individuals to managers and replace low performing candidates.

Great place to work in the early days (2000-2005).

Applications Engineer (Former Employee) Tualatin, OR

    ProsLeading edge technology.
    Company still leads projector market.
Helping see new products in production you helped with.
    Great people to work with.

ConsChips in the field became commodity and became hard to compete.
Management team decided to offshore most of the work in mid to late 2000's which broke the company.
By the time a course correction was made it was too late to save the core of the company and engineers who began everything.

Advice to Senior ManagementStick to core competencies of projector/scaling chips. Offer limited options for the TV and monitor market and beef up support to help most important customers. Rebuild the design team in the US and allow the Asian teams to develop chips to meet needs of their market.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
