friendly staff to work with, horrible pay, enormous amount of cleaning involved in the job

Member Services Representative (Former Employee) Nashua, NH

ProsFree Black Card gym membership (free haircuts), can be fun to work when you're not busy cleaning the gym, very customer service oriented so you're always working with people and it can be a laid back environment at times

ConsWorst pay I have ever received, large amount of cleaning involved (you're basically a janitor as well as working at the front desk)

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should pay people based on their experience/education. People with college degrees should not be paid $8.00/hr to start. You would retain a lot more employee with great education backgrounds if you could pay them at least a little bit more

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Total Nightmare

    (Former Employee) Nashua, NH

    Pros- Free membership
    - Experience in a customer service position
    - You get to meet some great people - both members and coworkers

Cons- Workplace gossip and drama unlike any job I've ever seen before (perpetuated by staff, management, and corporate)
    - Unpaid wages
    - Completely unresponsive management and HR department
    - Serious staffing issues
    - Training issues
    - Serious issues with managers
    - A slew of unprofessional behavior (on the part of the employees, but perhaps especially the managers)
    - Company values
    - As a staff member you are on call always, regardless of your schedule (expect to be called 24/7, with no days/times off limits - including your days off, past midnight, early morning hours)
    - Sexual harassment and behavior/comments that are not at all workplace appropriate
    - Overall toxic environment

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm not even sure where to begin. This job was wonderful at first, but it eventually became unbearable. I quit due to unprofessionalism on the part of the manager and staff. The managers at these locations change quite frequently, and it's not uncommon for a manger to work at a certain location for a few months and then be switched out with someone new - management gets moved around constantly. I had been sexually harassed by coworkers, and I reported it to my manager, who didn't document, report, or reprimand the behaviors at all. I began to feel very uncomfortable in the workplace for a number of reasons. I have unpaid wages, which I've called corporate and the employee hotline about dozens of times and nothing has come of it. In the end, this job became a truly negative experience.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I would not suggest accepting a management position

    Manager (Former Employee) Nashua, NH

ProsHelping members, Free membership, Making new friends, an excellent place to work for the high school or college part-time job.

ConsSupport from corporate office was minimal, Salaried position wages are very low, One week of vacation per year which you are discouraged to take, No Paid Time Off, You will be on call 24/7, High turnover rate at all clubs,

Advice to Senior ManagementIf, as a company, you are going to supplement the incredibly large and successful franchise division with corporately owned clubs, please pay attention to them, support your club managers and learn how to communicate with them in a proactive way. I enjoyed working for this company and believed in their mission for two years. Then, I saw how their corporate structure operated and how they treated their club managers after becoming one. Manager meetings were distasteful and offensive to younger "front desk" workers. Once, there was a workshop in which we were told to discourage single mothers from applying since they would not get the job. An overall shocking corporate culture at times compared to their mantra of a Judgement Free Zone. My advice to Planet Fitness would be to sell your corporate gyms to franchise owners as I think they would provide the care needed to run a club properly and professionally.
