Corporation works in the US - EMEA is a straight mess!

Middle Management (Former Employee) Amsterdam (Netherlands)

ProsStrong US based company and culture. Products with long history of quality and resemblence of sturdiness throughout the US organisation. Flat organisation for direct contact to top management

ConsUS based company - which means that the EMEA organisation and behaviour differs a lot in consistency from the US. People are not committed to their job, middle management are indifferent and an insame loss of control of financel, logistics and channel management grey markets has been the waqy of the business for ages.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean up you channel management of customer behaviour and straighten out internal mis-communications between middle management. Get rid of the Top-3 dogs in EMEA - they dont apply ANY value vs there imposive paychecks!

I never know what will happen or what priorities will change from day to day.

Marketing (Current Employee) Santa Cruz, CA

Pros-location, nice to drive to the beach for lunch
    -good discounts on products
    -good people to work with

Cons-unclear management goals (top-down communication is poor)
    -ever changing priorities
    -confusing bonus structure
    -mistrust among employees toward management

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter communication with the entire organization would be helpful. Product road maps and sharing of launch schedule would help everyone do their job better and feel as if they have a personal stake in what they are doing. A clearer bonus structure would help with the mistrust created between employees and managers. Taking the bonuses away would be better that what seems like this double talk we get.

    Could be so much better

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat location, nice people in the trenches, nice office space if not a little old fashioned.

ConsSenior management at the executive level is out of touch with the real employees. Human resources management is a joke. A complete overhaul of the building for everyone to sit in an open environment at the urging of the new VP of HR and she still sits in her own office. The only people who seem to be in the HR department consistantly are the recruiters. Finance or rather the CFO has too much time on her hands. Seems to micromanage the entire company. Salaries are not competitive with other companies. The ability to get promoted is nil. Sad really because there are a lot of people who deserve to be recognized and rewarded.

Comfortable place to work if you like settling for the status quo

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Santa Cruz, CA

ProsNice people creates a positive culture, high quality products, strong enterprise and call center business, quarterly earnings management, 7 minutes to the beach.

ConsLittle appetite for change, biggest risk to company is being too risk averse, unable to keep pace with the industry, quarterly earnings takes away from its focus on the future, questionable ability and limited patience to create and execute to a long term vision.

A very mixed bag -- the devil is in the details.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPlantronics has a strong contingent of competent, satisfied, local, long-time employees. It has successfully maintained its core market niche for decades, and it is aggressively trying to evolve.

ConsThe company is in flux, and change is challenging. Engineering has some highly skilled veteran contributors, but it is struggling to adapt to new opportunities and technologies, and the current senior management is well worth being extremely wary of. Morale is not high.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome key resignations might allow some less arrogant and manipulative leadership to come in and exert a positive influence more in keeping with Plantronics' historical reputation as a good place to work.

I wanted to love the job, but I couldn't

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Amsterdam (Netherlands)

ProsNice perks and they really look after you. Informal work environment (if you like that) CEO seems genuine

ConsMany employees have a lot of repetitive tasks and nobody challenges the status quo. There is no real direction from management although there are plenty of company meetings, however these are just platforms for managers to inform you what they've done and that's it. A lot of the managers are self-promoted and they forget about the rest of the employees very quickly turning their attention towards "projects", awards and buzzwords instead of actually motivating and getting the most out of staff. There are lots of competent employees but anyone with ambition will leave, and they have done in droves.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvise to EMEA management: What is the point, they've created a bubble for themselves. Advise to US management: kick some butt in EMEA!

    Nice comfortable place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsSteady and stable company
Decent management, not great, just decent
Flexible workplace. Nice building and workspace.

ConsNot risk takers. Slow and steady with growth.
    No real advancement opportunities.
Location in Santa Cruz with horrible access and local area. Homeless area.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a risk. Forecast growth for more than 6% a year.
Evaluate senior management. Not all stellar people.

Amazing product, Very conservative management, Very US centric not true global company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros1. Product design is generally very good. A true leader in the headset business in North America.
    2. Very strong design team
    3. Very strong brand in B2B
    4. Beautiful office in Santa Cruz

Cons1. Being in Santa Cruz means its not easy to attract a good amount of real talented people from Silicon Valley
    2. Very much US centric. US marketing team is weak, compared to European marketing team. The US Maketing collateral, compared to our competitor is like from amature.
    3. Very conservative. Instead of business unit, it has Finance to control sales price and discount, they question every little things of the business opportunity, but has very little knowledge of the market. This frustrates the field sales, and does not help us to move fast enough in response to competition.
    4. Weak in company strategies, team communications and leadership in Emmerging Markets esp. Asia Pacific.

Advice to Senior Management1, Need to create a better Sales Price Review system, to allow field sales certain level of authority to decide deal price, and esclate to product marketing and Business Unit if necessary.
    2. Need to have a strong leader who understands emerging markets, especially Asia Pacific and have good vision how to develop business and local team there.

Conslow pay compared to industry average
