    Pros

Nice culture, interns get opportunities to meet senior management, work on complex projects. Internship program was very well designed.

    Cons

Very low conversion ratio from intern to full-time so if you are looking for full-time opportunities its really tough as the company hires only if there is any open position

    Pros

It's in Santa Cruz! Good people Good facilities Good food Interesting consumer products. Pay is reasonable.

    Cons

Software Engineering done mainly by overseas contractors. Onsite software engineers spend most of their time dealing with overhead of administrating these teams. Early morning meetings if you like those. Minimal design/code that transitions over to outsource teams so minimal project ownership. Very rare to get promoted from within so don't plan on that. Hire into the level you want. Overall this is a factory based hardware company that makes headsets. This drives all schedules and priorities.. so software best practices are discussed... but little action taken.

    Advice to Management

Create staff level software engineering core teams onsite. Build critical mass technical teams onsite .. not skeletal assortment of meeting puppets. Empower them to do the critical core design and 50% implementation. You will have better results and effective passionate teams. Leverage balanced (50%) outsourcing to offload well defined or contained tasks, automation work, test coverage, bugfix.

    Pros

Work from anywhere Good coworkers, benefits

    Cons

People have been parked in their jobs too long -- stagnation, no new ideas. Intense politics at some levels. Could use a nice sweep in mid-level management. Siloed culture.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the employees. Find out what really goes on under the covers. Look at who manages through fear and clean house.

    Pros

They put a lot of effort into their internship program - lots of brown bag lunches to hear executives/representatives from various departments talk about what they do. They include interns in pretty much everything their full-time employees have access to, including monthly all hands meetings, parties, socials, 401k match, gym. The projects given to interns varied in importance and coolness, with some interns getting really disorganized or low-level projects and others actually making a valuable impact on the company. The people here are pleasant to work with, and there is a very egalitarian system of seating - even the CEO doesn't have a set desk so he would often sit near my fellow interns.

    Cons

Some of the intern projects didn't sound very cool to me, though mine was pretty good. The average age of the company is very high because a lot of people have been working with the company for >15 years. This is a good sign, but it means that there is not much opportunity for advancement in most departments. The laid-back culture sometimes leads to slacking off and lack of productivity in several departments.

    Advice to Management

Try to bring more young, talented people into Plantronics. This will make it a more desirable work environment and help you connect with the younger generation through your products.

    Pros

Food is good at cafe, people are nice, and you get three free headsets if you're hired as an associate.

    Cons

There are not that many days off and the location isn't in the most ideal place. Would be hard to commute from San Jose

    Advice to Management

    Not much.
