Plaster Group has been strategic in their growth, however in can cause an issue with Diversification of accounts.

I worked at Plaster Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits - generous PTO and holidays, medical benefits are paid for you and your family, and matching retirement plan.
Opportunities for growth - if you want to put the work there are so many available, just ask!
Peers - the company seeks out highly experienced professionals and has built a culture to foster collaboration, there is always someone to learn from and share your knowledge with.

    Cons

Smaller company - seeks out specific roles within organizations, if you are looking to work on a large project delivery team like you would find at the big consulting firms this is not the organization for you. However if you are looking work life blance is wonderful, and the client base is high caliber.

    Pros

Terrific pool of qualified talent. Benefits are terrific! They take care of their employees and have frequent gatherings. Very work life balance conscious. Fair with compensation with a nice yearly bonus that is clearly structured.

    Cons

No training coordination or assistance. But they are smaller so don't have that need yet so its not really a con.

    Pros

People: The company hires deeply experienced professionals with a high degree of expertise but also collaborative and easy to get along with. You always feel like you are learning from your peers.

Benefits: Very generous PTO and paid holidays as well as annual bonus, retirement plan matching and a compelling medical plan which is great for families (zero deductions).

Clients: Fortune companies and leaders in their fields. The majority of the client base is situated on the West Side of Seattle but the firm is building a presence on the East now.

Leadership: Leadership does an excellent job of balancing the needs of the consultant, client and the company. Plaster Group looks for consultants who will commit to the long term and in return consultants get commitment back. The company offers a 100% paid bench for consultants between engagements which means consultants don't have to worry about pay between engagements and demonstrates the company’s commitment to retaining top talent.

Opportunities: The company is small but the horsepower is high. The company looks to solve problems by bringing new perspectives and innovative thinking rather than throwing bodies at a the issue. Additionally, due to the size and ambition of the company there are lots of opportunities to be involved in proposal work, IP development, thought leadership etc. Plaster Group’s CEO is extremely responsive to the needs of his client base and to the needs of his consultants

    Cons

The cons are the same as you would find with any smaller company i.e. the magnitude of opportunities will be less than say at a Big 4 (read: you won’t be running an army of consultants on a monolithic delivery project (if that’s what you are into)). However the quality of life and balance of excellent client base, benefits, caliber of consultants and opportunity to build new skills and capabilities more than offsets this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up! It’s a breath of fresh air to work in this environment so leadership should be mindful of preserving the collaborative and transparent culture as the firm continues to grow.

    Pros

The company hires experienced consultants, excellent benefits compared to other local consulting companies, no out-of-town travel, company has strong values and lives them, good mix of clients (retail, healthcare, non-profit, technology), our clients love us, the ... the list goes on!!!

    Cons

Firm is still growing it's client base so the breadth and variety of opportunities will be improving; no Eastside clients (as of July 2013).

I have been working at Plaster Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Shawn Plaster takes care of his consultants. This means that salary/benefits will be competitive and he always listens carefully to his employees. He understands that Happy Consultants = Happy Customers. This is the kind of management you can trust.

Shawn emphasizes doing what's best for the customer even if it's not what is best for the company. This means consultants can feel good about always having the customers interests in mind, and not experience any conflicts between the interests of the customer and the interests of the company.

The Plaster Group only hires experienced and skilled consultants. This means that there is a wealth of talented consultants in the company from multiple expertise that can help a fellow consultant.

    Cons

It's still a growing company without the overhead of a large sales staff. This means that organic growth is key and although consultants are not expected to help the company grow, it's encouraged and for the benefit of everyone. It's through word of mouth and happy customers that has enabled the company to grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up! This is a firm any consultant would be happy to work for and any customer would be happy to hire.

    Pros

Plaster Group is small enough to be personal. Shawn hires terrific people. Contracts tend to be extended for long periods providing stability. No travel is required. Integrity and experience make all the difference!

    Cons

Because the company is small, some additional work is required including business development, proposal preparation, content development, etc. However, it's not a hardship, however, because the staff are good people who great to work with.

I have been working at Plaster Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Plaster Group has one of the best benefits packages in the industry that I've seen. They are also very accommodating and willing to make changes to stay competitive and they're very open to feedback. The working environment is terrific with a growing base of top notch clients.

    Cons

There is at this time no 401k retirement package (there is an IRA option as a supplement but lacks the flexibility a 401k offers) or built in training options. The client base is fairly small as well (but is growing rapidly).
