    Pros

People: The best perk or benefit about working at Pocket Gems is working with humble, down to earth, extremely smart and talented individuals.

Great Culture: Pocket Gems is a true start up at heart. Zero red tape. Employees are given freedom to make right decisions to help the company grow.

Mission: The company has a great mission to become #1 in mobile entertainment space and to build the best mobile team in world and I think every decision made by the management team is inline with Company's mission.

    Cons

To nice: I think people here are too nice and I am not sure if they can convey a tough message to any employee as needed for the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Pocket Gems has a super fun gaming/startup culture. It's a great job straight out of college that will show you the ropes and allow you to progress your career. Everyone is very smart and very nice.

    Cons

Pocket Gems isn't growing and hasn't really made any games that the market has responded to recently. They're still trying to figure out "how to make a great game" and until that happens, there won't be much progression in the company.

    Gimmicks for young college grads

    Pros

Free food. Nice people from around the world.

    Cons

Long hours and low pay. PG subscribes to the theory that young college grads are happy and satisfied with games and free food. Fact is, other startups and companies offer these things at much higher pay scales. Very little communication between teams, and scrum is not the answer. Products get released with little testing and product management (usually called technical support or customer care) takes the brunt of the ire from dissatisfied players. Not enough team members to get work done at a quality level. Embarrassed to be affiliated with this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better commutation between teams. Longer development cycles to ensure that quality products go out to players. Better management so that employees aren't working such long hours and can actually have a life outside of work (and parties at work don't count as 'having a life').

    Pros

Things are done fast here once you convince the right 1-2 people that it's worth doing. It's a very agile environment and we try to be flexible with our priorities. Everyone is super friendly and easy to get along with. There's lots of social events and the whole office turns into a party on Fridays. Pool table, foosball, ping pong, Nintendo Wii -- it's like a gigantic playground!

    Cons

You do have to work hard at this company. Working late into the night past midnight is not the day-to-day norm, but definitely something to you'll come to expect around major release dates, emergency bugs etc. This might be due to the fact that we are quite ambitious with the features we try to cram into each release and management does get stressed out at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with the positive and fun environment, but be less impulsively reactive when dealing with live issues.

    Exhausting workplace, but great people.

    Pros

-Colleagues are all very hardworking and talented people.
    -Free food.

    Cons

-People are very highly opinionated, and sometimes don't listen to what others have to say.
-The engineers often gripe about product management -- it sometimes feels like they walk all over the engineers (not every manager is alike, though.)
-Since this is a startup, the average age is really young, which is both a pro and a con. It can be frustrating at times that less experienced people (often times fresh out of college) exude over-confidence and arrogance in the workplace. (Again, not everyone is like this, but it does happen enough that it's bothersome to some of us).
-As others have mentioned, this is a very fast-paced environment, so there's a lot of pressure, and it's a huge time commitment.
-I never thought I'd say this, but I'm getting tired of playing games. You HAVE to be a big gamer in order to thrive in this environment (seems intuitive, I know), but the non-gamers often feel like they don't fit in the work culture, because it consumes after-work activities too.

    Pros

The perks are great. Fully stocked kitchen. Daily catered lunch and dinner. Unlimited vacation. The medical benefits are standard or above standard for a company of this size. You can tell that Pocket Gems really cares about their employees. It feels great coming in to work.

Sounds great, right? However, the best part is the people and the work environment. You have a massive ability to make large changes in the company. There are so many opportunities to make a noticeable impact. Changes are recognized and appreciated by everyone. Pocket Gems has the most rewarding environment I have ever experienced. There is no excessive bureaucracy to slow you down. Everyone will step in to help. The phrase "that's not my job" is rarely, if ever, used. Many game companies have turned into very draining environments. At Pocket Gems, I actually feel energized by the environment.

The tools and technology are great. You aren't forced to work with antiquated tech that would fit the norms of typical corporate environments. Even for a game company, the tech feels very new. I feel so much more enabled than I have at any other company. Pocket Gems is a leader in mobile gaming. They use the same mentality when choosing their technology, processes, and other aspects of the company. The result is a fresh take on all aspects of how a company can operate.

    Cons

We have grown fast and we can sometimes run pretty lean. This is the tradeoff for ensuring we have the best people in the industry. The hours can be a bit intense. Depending on the role, it may not be a good fit for those with families.

    Keep it up!
