Initially decent, but hasn't materialized as promised.

Senior Associate (Current Employee)

I have been working at Point B

ProsWork-life balance is respected.
Benefits are comparable with most other consulting firms.
Great place to work if you are starting a family.
Since all the consultants are paid by the hour, part time is a major plus.
Relatively no real air travel is required, but local commuting to various client sites can be grueling.
A great bunch of people to work and socialize with when you get the chance.

ConsCliquish management tier.
Growing stratification between hourly vs. salaried.
Bonus process is not open or communicated to the consultants which leaves you wondering what is going on.
Advancement is based on who you know and seniority rather than qualifications (like many companies).
True feedback is rare.
Seattle-centric.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf growth is the mantra, look outside company for qualified C level leadership.
Realize that with no real management growth path for senior employees, the only way to advance is to leave.
Provide published bonus plan to all employees that can be tracked and measured. This can be great tool to direct behaviour.
Since Tim and Darren have left (virtually), the company direction seems confused with no real passion being communicated by the leadership.

Great place to help take your career to the next level

Senior Associate (Former Employee)
Seattle, WA

I worked at Point B

ProsGreat place to help take your career to the next level, they will expose you to a number of different projects and clients. This will give you the opportunity to further define where you take your career, whether internally or externally.

ConsAs with any consulting firm you may not always have clarity into the project staffing process. They are working to evolve their client offerings, jury is still out on this.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to focus on your people, your true differentiator and expand to new cities on the east coast sooner rather than later.

Point B is full of unqualified people

Senior Associate (Current Employee)
Seattle, WA

I have been working at Point B

ProsIf you don't have much talent, yet can spin doctor well, this is the place for you. Looks matter more than substance.

ConsI suspect that most glowing reports here are by people in recruiting and HR. It is encouraged to spin doctor and be deceptive and many in management have no background in what they are sent to deal with at the client. However, they have the "look." The smooth car salesman appearance. That's all that matters here. The spin, the talk, and taking credit where none is due. Having worked in other consulting firms, I can't believe the amount of fluff. The only reason they sell at all is due to college connections and with competition as it is with companies who actually have substantive people, I can't imagine this is sustainable.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo you know how people actually get hired at Point B? It is getting the rep for fluffy work in the Seattle area.

Good place to be if your DNA matches.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Seattle, WA

I have been working at Point B

ProsWork life balance flexibility
Variable, interesting project options
Great reputation with clients
Honest attempt to do the right thing for customers

ConsMono-culture - want to have DNA match for new hires
Becoming more and more corporate, sadly
Entrenched core set of people who have undue control

Advice to Senior ManagementLarger is not always better
One size does not always fit all
Don't lose the 'special sauce' which made it a great place to work

Great place to work.

Senior Associate (Current Employee)
Seattle, WA

I have been working at Point B

ProsGreat people to work with and the support for work/life balance is the best I've ever experienced.

ConsMiddle of the road compensation when considering no paid vacation or time off at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep going on the OEI - but consider the impact of any changes on pay. You may need to re-visit the comparison compensation models previously used to ensure attraction and retention of the best candidates and Associates.

A great place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Point B

Pros-Fun, talented, smart team
-Great culture with a focus on the associate experience
-Opportunities to do interesting work and grow the market
-An amazing amount of autonomy is granted to associates - you decide when you take vacation, you decide if you want to do "extra" work
-Compensation based on results

ConsSome growing pains as we become bigger (hard on associates who have been here a long time) and deliver on a wider breadth of services

It really is as good as it sounds

Senior Associate (Current Employee)
Chicago, IL

I have been working at Point B

ProsPoint b is the "have your cake and eat it, too" consulting firm. You get the variety and excitement of consulting without the risk of forced out-of-town travel and your colleagues are simply top notch professionals.

ConsLearning to navigate an extremely flat, peer based culture can be challenging when one comes from traditional large corporations or consultancies where either have more levels and (especially for traditional consultancies) there are pace-based career ladders. Once you "get it" it can be extremely liberating, and a new challenge. That said, if you really dig titles or having formal responsibility for the career development of others, these will be lacking in most folks roles.

Advice to Senior Managementkeep up the good work; even though the firm is largely "west-coast" consider those of us further East and arrange training session classes to end earlier so that we can make the last flights back! This is usually the case, but it should be a formal and explicit part of event planning.
