Pros
Agile development practices
shortened workweek
management accessible
as in smaller city, commute to work is not very long
some possibilities to move positions (horizontally + vertically)
Cons
still some "old school" management
hard to get a pay rise or adjustment to market level for very talented individuals
just been acquired by a larger company with a big developer base overseas
Advice to Senior Management
let your employees know how valuable they are to you
you have many very talented individuals, give them confidence in what they are doing
no "superheros", "go to" persons needed - your teams can make great decisions, come up with good ideas themselves
Pros
It's a fun place to work
Cons
changes are good, but sometimes it was too many.
Advice to Senior Management
nothing really.
Pros
Great culture and atmosphere, allowed to be creative and share ideas. Very little managing and interfering from execs. Close knit group of people.
Cons
Smaller company, so room to move up is limited. No bonus or compensation above salary when it's deserved.
Advice to Senior Management
It's great that management want to be involved, but it's important to include important people in meetings and conversations. Try to keep the customer in mind first!
Pros
Great rec room, staff lunch every 2 weeks, friendly coworkers, laid back office environment, good compensation
Cons
getting development issues fixed takes a long time, which is frustrating... but there is a balance between moving forward and fixing the past.
Advice to Senior Management
Good leadership. Great career. Thanks for providing an opportunity to work with a technology company within a small city like Saskatoon (200-250k pop.)
Pros
Agile Process. Aiden is amazing and has a world of knowledge. Great facilities and perks. I like the facilities and some of the people are very approachable. I like the fact that they are constantly trying to improve their process.
Cons
Some managers are good workers but don't have good management skills. I also worked in a time between transitions. Some of the legacy code is quite scary and separation of concern is quite a problem in the homes side. I'm not sure they promote professionalism. There is time for casual environment but I believe the work place requires professionism. My manager wore a hockey sweater, shorts and sandals.
Advice to Senior Management
Monitor your employees more and communicate more with employees.
