I have been working at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Company has a movie-like history and (on paper) an incredible culture. It still feels like Ralph travels the halls and shapes the brand because he actually does.

    Cons

There is a job for absolutely everything and it's difficult to have anyone do something not listed on their job description. A corporate company where you often hear "no" and a fashion company that falls under all the generic stereotypes.

    Advice to Management

Stop blaming the people above you and demand change. Lead by example and teach your staff from your experience instead of mindless dictation. Talk to someone you've never met in a hallway. If you've been there 5+ years and a promotion is not on the horizon, leave because you're not getting one and your screwing up the promotion structure for others. Lastly, don't charge your employees for gift boxes.

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Brand recognition. Great people. Good family discounts.

    Cons

Decisions are top down from global headquarters, giving little wiggle room to implement innovative ideas to further elevate the brand in the markets overseas. Corporate bonus incentives only at senior director or above.

    Advice to Management

Delegate and empower your talented people. Your employees may grow bored waiting for directions from New York.

    Pros

Excellent luxury selling environment. High quality clothing for various budgets means that one is able to sell to various levels clientele without much push back because of pricing

    Cons

The People that are placed in management lacked the selling skills necessary to push to brand to new levels. The sales reps were responsible for bringing in most of the business while management received all of the accolades

    Advice to Management

Go back to the way the retail business was operated years ago when the customer was the first priority. That's when RL was RL. No one or no luxury retail company was close to our level
