I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren for less than a year

    Pros

As an intern, you get to do a lot. It is not only admin or office support. I got to participate in the design meetings, fittings, and see the whole corporate design process. The intern program is well-done and includes events, workshops and panels. It is a great place to intern and it also pays. You also get a discount.

    Cons

Not much. I wouldn't recommend if you are not used to fast-paced environments and keep up with the speed.

    Pros

Great people, great pay, great discounts and overall a very employee first company.

    Cons

Customers could be difficult at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increased hours would be nice. Not many full-time positions.

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren

    Pros

I had an absolutely surreal experience at Ralph Lauren's office in Greensboro. Coworkers and management are both friendly, warm, and professional. The office itself is pristine, always being updated and renovated to keep up with times, and lends its' employees the opportunity for a productive, happy, safe, work environment. All of the company's safety, health, and benefits policies are current and display the company's care for it's employees.

    Cons

The hiring procedures in place at Ralph Lauren are almost sickening. It's all about who you know, who's bum you kiss, and how you promote yourself. I watched coworkers work harder than anyone in their department, hoping to gain a promotion, only to watch the spot be filled by the ridiculously unqualified receptionist with a few friends in HR. The way to gain power in Ralph Lauren is to play the game, not necessarily by working hard. Leadership will treat you well and be friendly toward you, but sometimes it feels fake and forced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to take better notice of your employees. Who is the first person to show up in the morning? Who is the last person to leave the department at night? Appreciate the employees who deserve your appreciation.

Also, pay these hard-working employees better. Stop trying to make money off keeping people on as temps.

I have been working at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The name on your resume for future job opportunities. That's it. Nothing else. Wish I could offer more positive feedback. Sorry.

    Cons

Everything else. Been horrible since day one.
The turnover rate is so high because no one with any amount of intelligence sticks around for very long. And so you are left with......the scraps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire COMPETENT employees. Do not hire people in a rush just for the sake of hiring someone,
Impossible to get rid of employees who quite frankly should never have been hired in the first place. Very hard to work with people who simple do not GET it.
Also- there is a VERY high focus placed on senior management and above. No attention or appreciation given to those who are lower on the totem pole. HR is there to protect the company, not the employee.

    Beware of the Digital/eCommerce team

I worked at Polo Ralph Lauren full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very competitive salaries within the Digital team. Most people are relatively friendly and smart. Looks fantastic on a resume. Inspiring brand heritage. Great 50% discount at RL and CM - with many larger discount opportunities through the year. Early access to all of the sample sales. Easy to fly under the radar, if that’s what you’re looking for. Nice emphasis on volunteering and giving back.

    Cons

The Digital team is a mess. Well over 150 people have left within the past 18 months. It is far too VP heavy, and none of them can get along amongst themselves, which translates into a hostile and competitive atmosphere - think 60% Cruel Intentions, 40% Mean Girls. Just about everyone within digital is miserable, even those who have started within the past 6 months. New hires start out as nice, optimistic and easy-going, but are transformed into defensive, miserable creatures within a matter of months. Culture throughout RL favors pretty boys. Zero respect for ecommerce and digital throughout the larger RL organization.

    Pros

Everyone seems to have worked at Ralph Lauren. It's a great learning ground. There is a lot of process in place that sometimes results in red tape but overall was a great learning experience.

    Cons

Low salaries. Corporate politics. Red tape. Scarce resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let your people do what they do best. Don't micro manage them. Trust them. Once budgets are approved, let people run with it.
