Former Employee - Sales/Marketing in Slough, Berkshire, South East England, England (UK)

I worked at Polycom full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The technology and vision are great, clean office, free car park tea and coffee, bus stop outside, work from home, excellent salary.

    Cons

Culture of bullying and fear, employees are treated like animals by ignorant, incompetent management, no career path due to hire and fire mentality, quarterly driven with no long term vision, useless ABC sales training applied across the board even for experienced sales people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compared to all the other Hi Tech companies I have worked for in a sales position Polycom has the worst culture I have ever encountered. Unless there is a desire to change from the top then my advice is to keep taking the money for as long as you can until they get rid of you too

    Pros

    Flexible working
    Friendly co-workers
    Adequate remuneration

    Cons

High churn rate mainly through lay-offs creating an atmosphere of distrust and uneasiness at the end of each quarter. Good people made redundant leaving many incompetent ones behind - go figure!?!
Far too quarterly driven and dependent on the stock price.
Unrealistic quotas and unrelenting pressure on Sales leading to severe stress

I have been working at Polycom full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great salary, interesting industry & products, prestigious experience centres around the globe

    Cons

very poor management with extremely incompetent people at the top, lots of internal politics where everyone is just covering their ass and never doing what's best for customers, bullying from many managers, top strategy and products extremely flawed, company values at the exact opposite of actual reality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to review their managers anonymously and fire the bad ones!

I worked at Polycom full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Excellent salary, free tea and coffee

    Cons

Worst company I ever worked for, sales ABC training inflicted on experienced people, management by fear, high churn rate, SHITE management, based in Slough!Cons, work time per week is unlimited, success is not honored, typical hire and fire approach, if they want to get rid of an employee they are willing to play quite dirty with minimal compensation. The EMEA leadership team is useless and trying to do its own thing, no matter what the corporate office asks for.

I have been working at Polycom full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Nice clean windows.
Plenty of free biscuits and coffee.
The carpets are always clean.......but more seriously there IS some good to say:-
    Very good pay/comp package.
A great team of employees (but they're constantly abused)
    Great brand and customer base

    Cons

Let's keep this short or it will need its own website:-
Spiteful culture from the TOP down.
    Rule by fear not leadership
    Constant churn of staff
They need to understand that 'strategy' lasts more than a quarter
    Did I mention churn?
Did I mention stress and bullying?
I could only recommend a job here to someone I really dislike......but they pay well so I stay :-)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the leadership......a mutiny is way overdue and the shareholders have had enough. This used to be a world-class company.....such a shame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

start listen to your employees, honor everything you tell - for example Polycom to become a great place to work at (since this has been announced it's gone worse!). Get your EMEA Management under control!

    I worked at Polycom

    Pros

office is reasonable warm and dry.
    money was paid in time.
there is a bus stop in front of the building.
    huge parking slot.
nice guys at the reception (contractors)
Monday night football (own expense) is great fun.

    Cons

    no career pass,
dishonesty, (they can´t differentiate between hiding and lying.)
numbers are screwed up all the time.
    no sales environment.
foreigners are misused as language puppets in slough.
management think that polycom has no open door policy,
    no work balance.
I couldn't discover any work ethics (may be they are there but they are well hidden.)
I doubt that even the management aside from AM believes in the polycom messaging,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

hopeless task, as they are not interested.
